1. Jaadu Tone
Composed by - Shreya Jain
Lyrics by - Shayra Apoorva, Shreya Jain
Produced by - Nakul Chugh
Language: Punjabi
Genre: Rock
Mood: Energetic
I have to just compliment Shreya Jain on this one, having tracked her work for the last couple of years. She has been quite good as a vocalist, but when she can compose a song like this, she is making all the right moves. Her collaboration with Nakul Chugh seems to be working like magic and kudos to Nakul for this exhilarating production.
The Punjabi lyrics were written by Shayra Apoorva and Shreya hits us as hard as the solid electric guitars and drums in this rock set-up. Sachin Shahi is the drummer and Ishan Das is charging up the sound with his electric guitars. The energy is pumping with the instrumental arrangements and the chorus segment is sensational, aggravated by Shreya's phenomenal singing. Himanshu Rawat is the bassist.
When we get to the stanza, Shreya switches gears with amazing ease and the ferocity in the previous lines perishes. The sweet and gentle vocals with mild ghamakas make the melody sound semi-classical. The lines also are now in Hindi and probably this is why the song has the two lyricists. The outro segment gets pulsating with all the electric guitar and drum support and Shreya's vocal outburst. The tracks are mixed and mastered by Abhishek Ghatak.

2. Katchi Sera
Composed & Performed by Sai Abhyankkar
Music Produced by Sai Abhyankkar
Lyrics by Adesh Krishna
Additional Vocals by Sai Smriti
Music Programmed & Arranged by Sai Abhyankkar
Language: Tamil
Genre: Pop
Mood: Happy
Sai Abhyankkar a.k.a. Abhay releases this brilliant pop number would deserves to be at the top of the charts undoubtedly. I am thrilled to see such amazing talent exhibited by Abhay, who has single-handedly created this banger. He has written the melody, sung the lines and along with that arranged and produced the song to perfection.
It all begins in such a mellow fashion, but the moment Abhay starts singing our hearts just grow fonder. The cool and casual style of delivery is executed brilliantly and let us not forget Adesh Krishna's apt lyrics. Sai Smriti sings in the background and delivers those stylish and teasing Konnakol lines. The impactful bass is accompanied by engaging keys, synths and the Vocoder, all played by Abhay.
Do remember to check in the song's official video on YouTube as it has some stunning choreography by Anusha Viswanathan and all the dancers from The Dancers Club. The interlude is filled with the Nadaswaram by Parthiban, the DIY Duduk and Bawu played by Ashish and all the wonderful rhythms programmed by Abhay. Many musicians assume that a song with a couple of catchy lines is good enough for the listeners to enjoy, but Abhay deserves huge appreciation for going further and giving us a cherished experience and you can feel the hair rising with the melodious notes of the stanza as he sings " yaarum parthu ninnu pesavilla".
He sings the lines with such finesse and it is like he knows the magic formula to make a song sound hypnotic and addictive. Whether you understand the lyrics or not, I urge the readers to listen, see and dance their way to bliss with this one. The electric guitar is played by Rohan Sebastian, while Abhay is on the acoustic guitar. Yanka Rhythm Group is in charge of the reverberating live rhythms, and the tracks are mixed by Sai at YOLO Records and mastered by Rupendar Venkatesh.

3. Dil Ki Mez
Singer - Shalmali Kholgade
Lyrics - Varun Grover
Music - Pritam
Language: Hindi
Genre: Jazz
Mood: Romantic
Here comes the 3rd song from 'Merry Christmas' that I am featuring in 2024 and surely this puts Pritam in his 'A' game. This one has one of my favourites Shalmali Kholgade on lead vocals and she is blazing away with her delivery. Jazz music is back baby in Bollywood, and we get some wonderful arrangements, with the Piano, the horns section, backing vocals and the Harmonica too.
The chorus segment is beautiful and if Shalmali's steamy vocals aren't enough for you, we get the sensational interludes, led by the Harmonica and the backing vocal humming piles up on the beauty. Many a time, songs that are picturised as performances on screen, end up disappointing but this one is mesmerising. I can feel my cells falling in love with the music I hear and when Shalmali sings "Karenge hum yeh galti khamakha". Kudos to Varun Grover for the lyrics. The mild drums never let us lose a moment's focus and the upright bass and Piano combine with great effect in the outro.

4. Cross The Line
Music composed by Chirag Todi and Chezin
Music produced by Divyang Arora
Vocals, Lyrics: Chezin
Language: English
Genre: Pop
Mood: Energetic
Chirag Todi is sensational in playing the guitars in the intro. The song's melody is written by Chirag and Chezin with the latter working on the lyrics and he is also the lead vocalist. The vocals are ballistic and it is impossible to remain calm or static when the song oozes in style and seduction.
The humming that precedes and follows "You're taking full control of me" is one of the most delicious parts of the song. Chetan Dominic Awasthi a.k.a. Chezin has some envious vocal qualities and he leverages this with some glorious delivery. Divyang Aora deserves all the credit for producing this song with such style and substance, that it elevates the song to a level crossing all global benchmarks. The arrangements of all instrumentals and vocal harmonies also are done by Divyang. The solo on the guitar towards the end is funky to the core. We also get adequate thump from the rhythms and key departments. Nirmit Shah is the mix/master engineer and the attractive artwork is by Rachel Naomi.

5. Dhun
Singer, Composer - Sarthak Saksena
Lyrics - Shayra Apoorva
Music Production, Outro Composition - Shahzan Mujeeb
Language: Hindi
Genre: Semi-classical/ EDM
Mood: Relaxed
Sarthak blends semi-classical music with some trippy EDM tones here and it feels like a savvy coalition of styles. There is a mild Arijit tonality in his vocals, and that is only meant as a compliment. The intervention on the woodwind is spectacular and it is a well-written interlude. It becomes extremely catchy by this time and as much as Sarthak is stunning on vocals, the sound design and production are worthy of an ovation thanks to Shahzan Mujeeb.
Shayra Apoorva is the lyricist and she gets the message across beautifully through her words. The stanza is short but that doesn't take anything away from the overall quality of the song. Sarthak showcases his wide vocal range, especially close to the outro. Shazan has done the outro composition for the song. He is also the mixing and mastering engineer.

6. Ruki Ruki Si
Composer: Jeet Gannguli
Singer: Abhay Jodhpurkar
Lyricist: Jeet Gannguli
Music Assistant: Gaurav Singh
Language: Hindi
Genre: Semi-classical Pop
Mood: Relaxed
Abhay Jodhpurkar makes a great start to 2024 with this super performance as lead vocalist. I thought that this was Raag Puriya Dhanasree, but I stand corrected. When I had a word with Abhay, he mentioned that this belongs to Raag Mishra Shiv Ranjani. Jeet Ganguli has written the lyrics as well but it is his composition that stands out.
The aalap and the ghamakas are world-class and something that is like a walk in the park for a vocalist of Abhay's standing. The keys and rhythm programming is top-notch and we have Birinchi on the task with Gaurav Singh as the musical assistant to Jeet. The interlude melody is such a shift from what we hear in the song's sthayi and antara segments.
Abhay's vocals imbibe a sense of pathos with his delivery style and here I find hope in the song's melody and its richness like Abhay's voice spells despair and sadness. The keys and synths decorate the background with the beautiful aalap by Abhay making it a worthy outro segment. Riupjit Das is the recording, mixing and mastering engineer at Playhead Studio, Mumbai, with Chandrani Ganguli on video production design.

7. Koi Aayat
Song Directed by Sneha Shetty Kohli
Music Composer - Abhishek - Ananya
Lyricist - Manoj Yadav
Music Producer - Abhishek Arora, Amey Ghule
Singer - Sukanya Purkayastha
Additional Singer - Amey Ghule
Just like I promised, here I am featuring the second song in "Indian Police Force", after last week. The composers here are Abhiehsk and Ananya and the melody is semi-classical and I am sensing a bit of Raag Desh here. Sukanya Purkayastha is the lead vocalist and she has this tone that keeps the listener intrigued. Rhythm Shah is gently playing the acoustic guitars and slowly we are exposed to the plucks by Tapas Roy and the pathos-inducing Shehnai by Omkar Dhumal.
The tone that Sukanya carries, is kind of the same fabric as Rekha Bharadwaj ji. The Tumri style is very dear to me and the composers Abhishek-Ananya do a fabulous job in writing the melody. It continues to delight as we enter into the stanza. The producers are Abhishek Arora and Amey Ghule and they have arranged and programmed with a stunning touch of quality. Amey also doubles up as the additional vocalist.
When we get to this sanchari of the song I also hear some influences of Raag Maand. Rakesh Deol and Sudhanshu Shome are the backing vocalists and right through Nilesh Parab's percussions. Chinmay Harshe is the mixing engineer with mastering done by Gethin John. The song has this slight Sufi flavour when the chorus hits you, and the bass guitar plays like an unsung hero all the way. The song is directed by Sneha Shetty Kohli.

8. Gal Mukdi
Composed and Produced by Rusha & Blizza
Vocal Courtesy: Mitika Kanwar
Vocal Composition :Mitika Kanwar
Lyrics: Bulleh Shah
Language: Punjabi
Genre: EDM
Mood: Trippy
Just last week I featured Rusha & Blizza for a single that they composed in Rashmeet Kaur's wonderful album 'Kaura'. I do believe the duo have correctly set their sights on creating good music and at the same time catering to the interests of music lovers and their tastes. Mitika Kanwar, just like Rashmeet is a phenomenon and an unstoppable force vocally.
Singing, Bulleh Shah's lyrics, Mitika turns up the heat with her performance. Rusha & Bliza get the elements in place with some stunning programming and arrangements to make things high-octane and pulsating. The rhythm programming especially sets the song apart and I can imagine how this song can be a non-stop hit on the dance floor and parties across the nation. The hip Hop lines also act as a good contrasting addition to the folk melody that Mitika is singing. She is the recording engineer and Hanish Taneja is the mixing and mastering engineer.

9. Shayari
Performed by Aalok Gandhi
Written by Aalok Gandhi, Angad Uday, KS Abhishek
Produced by Angad Uday
Language: Hindi
Genre: Semi-classical Fusion
Mood: Relaxed
This too is one of those instances where a musician submits his/her music on my website and I listen to it and get impressed by the artist's performance. Without this provision, I would have missed out on a lovely song that deserved attention. Aalok Gandhi is the main artist here and it is his voice we hear in the lead. The lyrics are penned by KS Abhishek and the melody is composed by Aalok. I did assume that there was some Raag Bihag, and Aaolk tells me there is more of Raag Khamaj.
We hear the gentle vocals and Rajat Prasanna makes a foray with the flute solo, and the whole production feels sophisticated with a touch of AR Rahman during his heydays and movies like "Jodha Akbar". Angad Udhay has produced the song with some fabulous sound design and arrangements of live instrumentals. Some of the additional production is by Samarth Srinivasan and Tushar Lall. The interlude builds on magnificently and all the orchestra we hear is arranged by Samarth. The whole song's texture and tone also feel like "Yeh Tara Woh Tara", especially when we hit the stanza. Satish plays the Ghatam and KAnjira in the background.
The song's ability to mesmerise just keeps getting better with progress and the stanza is beautifully composed by Aalok Samarth's Orchestral arrangements deserve a huge round of applause. The French Horn is played by Ali Nizamani and Norlene M is the Cellist. The layer of background vocals is thanks to Angad, Aalok, Ali Nizamani, Anubhav Gogoi and Samarth. The tracks are mixed by Himanshu Shirlekar and mastering is by Bill Hare. The lovely cover art is by Shivani Parekh

10. Sandela Kusuni
Singer: Sunitha Upadrasta
Music Director: Dr. Josyabhatla
Lyrics: Aruna Devireddy
Language: Telugu
Genre: Light Music
Mood: Happy
This song reminds me of the 1990s, a period when some amazing music was being created by Maestro Ilaiyaraja and this one probably has influences of Begada Ragam. Sunitha Upadrastha is the lead vocalist and she has a flawless exhibition here. The vibrato, the mild playfulness in her delivery and her ability to reach the higher vocal registers with super ease stand out. It reminds me of the legendary playback singer Janaki.
Prakash Rex does some solid all-round Keyboard and rhythm programming making the interludes and all the background sound design quite interesting. Dr. Josyabhatla is the song's composer and producer with Aruna Devireddy as the lyricist. The intervention on Keys and all the choice of rhythms create further nostalgic moments taking me to the 1990s. Josyabhatla has written an enjoyable melody, that too he impresses with an extended stanza. The recording engineer is Bharadwaj Krishna, and Prakash Rex is the mix/master engineer.
