1. Minnalvala
Music composed, arranged and produced by Jakes Bejoy
Lyrics: Kaithapram Damodaran
Singers: Sid Sriram, Sithara Krishnakumar
Language: Malayalam
Genre: Ligh Music/Pop
Mood: Romantic
Through this song, I learned about a new instrument. We all probably have heard this instrument whenever there is a reference to Chinese folk music. It is the Erhu, a bowed instrument with two strings. There probably isn't any reference to China, but it still is creative of Jake to employ this instrument in the intro. It does sound like the Kottankuchi, used in Tamil folk music. Krishna Kishor makes the thumping rhythms sound catchy. Haruyo Kimura plays the Erhu.
It probably has been a while since I heard Sid Sriram singing Malayalam, and he does a good job in this romantic single from 'Narivetta'. Naveen Napier is the bassist and we get a full exhibition of Jakes's arrangements and production through the song. I love the sound of the Kanjira playing mildly along with Kiran's flute solo in the background. Akhil Chand accompanies Sid on backing vocals giving a nice second layer of vocals. The strings section in the interludes is played by the Budapest Scoring Orchestra. The lyrics are penned by Kaithapram Damodaran.
Sid continues to sound fantastic in the stanza as he goes about delivering the high-pitched lines with ease like "Raavil Ninte Poomukam Kandu". The highlight reel is when the exquisite Sithara delivers her line"Nammallo Theerathe Olangal Theeratha Daahathin Thaalanagal" with a mild vibrato at the end. Jakes must be complimented for writing a fine melody here especially, the stanza. The landing notes to join the song's Pallavi is a fantastic union of both these lead vocalists in "Paarithil Naa Poyidaam, Vin Nadhi Pol Ozhukidaam". The tracks are mixed and mastered by Midhun Anand and the sound engineers are Midhun, Unmesh Unnikrishnan, Amal Mithu, Abin Ponnachan, Vishnu Shankar and Arnav Sharma

2. Saathi
Vocals: Monali Thakur
Lyrics: Kausar Munir
Composition, additional arrangements: Rohan Rohan
Arranged and Produced: Avi Lohar
Language: Hindi
Genre: Light Music/ Semi classical
Mood: Mild Pathos
Vjay Tambe's flute solo makes the intro sound calming, and the melody contains fragments of Raag Brindavan Sarang. Monali Thakur calmly takes the lead vocals in this beautiful melody composed by the dynamic duo Rohan and Rohan. Kausar Munir penned the lyrics, and we hear this song from a historically important movie album called Phule. The flute interventions are constant and carry a lot of significance. The Keys start making an impact but the true grounded and rooted impact comes when the percussions start hitting.
Avi Lohar is credited with all the amazing arrangements and music production with Rohan Pradhan and Rohan Gokhale handling additional arrangements. The melody written for the flute is excellent and the execution is equally impressive in the interlude. Monali's delivery becomes so beautiful as she reaches out to the higher-pitched notes, getting some 'Harkaetin' also executed with grace and style. Listen to the "Saathi Saathi" phrase at the end of the stanza for example. The arrangements become delightful with the strings section and the Sitar also accompanying.
We don't have too many songs these days with two antara pieces and that is why this composition and overall song stands out. I wish Monali Thakur performed so much more. The tracks are mixed and mastered by Aftab Khan.

3. Yethetho
Vocals: MS Krsna and Sublahshini
Composed, Arranged and Produced by MS Krsna
Lyrics: MS Krsna
Language: Tamil
Genre: Pop
Mood: Mild PAthos
MS Krsna is a bundle of talent and from moving rapidly between indie and web series and shorts ( loved his score for award-winning short 'SeeingRed'), he gives his best and finest work everywhere. This is a new single composed, written, arranged and produced by MS Krsna and when it comes to lead vocals he collaborates with the ravishing Sublahshini. Krsna plays the rhythm guitar to create the spark and the fire is well and truly ignited with the bow and strings as Rithu Vyskah plays the violins.
The poignant pathos delivered by Rithu's violins is unmatched and when Krsna sings "Yaarume enai purindhu kondathillai", I want to tell him, "Yeah, I feel you and understand you, brother". The chorus line is a smashing concoction of vocals, words and notes. Rithu follows up with a fine solo and the melody written here and executed like the undying soul of the song. Gooth accompanies on backing vocals, and Lalit Talluri intervenes on the flute solo. Things get hotter than one can handle as Sublahshini makes an entry in the verse.
The agony and pain cannot be better brought down than when Sublahshini is in such a magical flow. The violins and flutes are constantly at it making sure the listener gets no breather from the amazement. The heart is full when Sublahshini sings Yethetho yethetho' in teh lower vocal register. The tracks are mixed by Josh Bourbon and Krsna, with mastering by RK Sundar.

4. Pukaare Mujhe
Composed and Performed by Orgho
Lyrics: Saurav Jyoti Nath
Bengali lyrics: Pinak Mandal
Music Producer: Satwik Tripathy
Language: Hindi/Bengali
Genre: Indian classical Rock fusion
Mood: Energetic
The heavy rock flavours with the Indian classical elements in the melody is a priceless combination that we are exposed to straightaway in the intro. Orghio had composed the melody and performed the lead vocals with exquisite style and energy as well. Satwik Tripathy provides the adrenaline of rock music through his electric guitars and Himanshu Singh is the designated drummer to elevate our mood.
The arrangements of the drums and guitars feel like the score of a Spaghetti Western movie for me. The humming in the interlude "dhira na dhira na nanana" with the accompanying drums sends your heart racing. Orgho plays the acoustic guitar all along. The aalaap in the interlude is another excellent element and this is where I sense some Raag Bhimplasi influences. The song after this goes through a dramatic shift where we get Orgho gives a retro melody from the 1960s. The Hindi lyrics are penned by Saurav Jyoti Nath.
The ensuing section is a Bangla folk segment with evocative singing and lyrics by Pinak Mandal, and this continues to have an energetic impact thanks to the rock elements. Satwik Tripathy must be complimented for excelling in all the arrangements and music production and altering every element as we move from one style to another. Nishant P Das is the recording, mixing and mastering engineer at Euphony Studios, Mumbai.

5. Na Raha
Written and Performed by Neel Adhikari
Lyrics by Ankur Tewari
Produced by Neel Adhikari, Jehangir Jehangir and Aria Nanji
Language: Hindi
Genre: Soft Rock
Mood: Dreamy
Neel Adhikari is a force that probably wont make much noise but his sound is worth your time. I have always enjoyed his brand of pop/rock music and India should celebrate talents like these, at least I will not stop appreciating and recommending his music to the crowd at large. The guitars by Shard Rao are speaking to you, like an Oracle and predicting something fabulous that is about to happen over the next 5 minutes. Neel performs the lead vocals "Hum huay Jiske, woh apna Na raha", as he brings delicate sadness in his tone.
The lyrics are penned by the majestic Ankur Tewari who is one of those lone souls like Neel trying to create rich orginal music. Jehangir Jehangir teases you with the touch of the drums and we hear the layesr of guitars with Sharad and Aria Nanji too. Arai and Sharad also provide backing vocal support to magnify the impact of the words. David De Menezes intervenes just mildly on the solo violin from time to time. The collective forces of the drums, guitars, violins and bass, by Yohann Coutinho, start powering through.
Neel takes you on an enjoyable and brief detour with the bridge section "Woh imaratein ah bhi hai, wahin, uss bheed mein kho gaya kahin, mera ghar na raha". The sad lines end and David nails the emotions even further with the solo violin. The harmonies are delightful and Aria and Sharad are freely improvising to creatively vocalize. The solo on the electric guitar in the outro by Sharad feels like an emotional outburst from all the pathos and this outro feels cathartic with Jehangirs drums and Neel's vocals. The tracks are mixed and mastered by Hersh Desai.

6. Nilave
Vocals: Haricharan
Lyrics: Reshmi Sushil
Music composed and Produced by Harimurali Unnikrishnan
Language: Malayalam
Genre: Light Music
Mood: Romantic
The combination of the guitars, bass and the flute solo is just as tempting a combination as Chai and Toast. We have the terrific Anurag Rajeev Nayan playing the acoustic guitars and bass, and the dashing Josy Alappuzha on the woodwinds. There is so much happening in the intro and one must applaud Harimurali Unnikrishnan for the very enticing intro segment. Harimurali had composed the melody, arranged, produced and done the backing vocals.
Haricharan is the lead vocalist and leaves it to the master to generate the romance and oomph needed for a romantic song like this. Just listen to the way he delivers the lines and that pause after 'Nilave' in the opening line, is proof enough. Anurag teases with the acoustic guitar and some funky style is added through the basslines. The arrangements are worthy of mention as Harimurali gets the Tavil, rhythms and they all combine magically with the Keys, and guitars.
The melody is nicely written with a lot of semi-classical flavours "Kaanapon kanavai kannoram chaayumbol" reminds me of a ARR Rahman song "Sandhippoma iravarum Sandhippoma", from the album 'Enakku 20 Unakku 18'. There possibly is some influence of Yamunakalyani Raagam in the melody. Haricharan is such a delight to hear with his mild ghamakas elevating the notes. Anurag probably gets some Slide guitar and classical guitar on board too. The recording engineers are Lijesh Kumar and Arjun Santosh Eravankara. Sai Prakash is the mixing and mastering engineer.

7. Mauka Miley
Written and Performed by Raya
Produced by Joy Sengupta
Language: Hindi
Genre: Pop
Mood: Pathos
Raya writes the melody, and lyrics and performs the lead vocals too in this stirring soulful melody sunk in mild pathos. The guitars and vulnerable and pitched vocals slowly entice you, but I love the tantalizing Mandolin even more than the acoustic guitar. The gentle keys and guitars don't take away any attention from Raya's vocals and lyrics. The attention is unwavering thanks to the writing and delivery with lines like "us pedh ki chaav mein, abb sukoon kahan, bas yaadein aur baatein goonje yahaan".
The chorus segment is the part where all elements come together and the listener is taken for a stroll into bliss. The Violins start echoing in the background to deliver the melancholy slowly as well. Joy shines as the producer and the one in charge of all the arrangements. I can feel Raya's vocals gaining strength and she performs like a woman out of the woods in the second verse, away from all the pain and vulnerability displayed in the earlier verse.
Joy plays the guitars and the mandolin, while the keys are by Raya. The melody does remind me of Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy's "Har Ghadi Badal Rahi Hai". The vocal quality and delivery are outstanding and Raya showcases her abilities beautifully.

8. Ek Martaba Phir
Vocals: Ananya Sharma
Composed and produced by Salim-Sulaiman
Lyrics: Shraddha Pandit
Language: Hindi
Genre: Pop
Mood: Romantic
The brothers arrive once again and this time, they are here to compose and produce a breezy romantic single with the words of Shraddha Pandit and magnetic vocals of Ananya Sharma. The rhythm guitar plays and then we also have a lead guitar in the intro, Anaya just hums a bit and stings you like a bee with a lot of zing. You know it is a Salim-Sulaiman production when you wait for the end of the line " Baaki sahi hai, bas teri kami hai" and the keys play 3 notes that signify their style.
The guitars are played by Nyzel Dlima, and Salim is on Keys. The percussions are kept to a minimum, maybe restricted to the clapbox alone. Ananya is having a ball here adding such beauty and magnifying the beauty of the melody with her vibrato. She also goes about improvising with some play on the phrase 'Martaba DIl'. The interlude has some harmonies and this is where Nyzel goes solo and weaves a brief melody.
The melody becomes richer in the antara and touches the heart with lines like 'Tumko Manane, Kya Dhun main sunaaun', with Ananya executing it with such style and endearment. Salim-Sulaiman proves that a melody is no child's play (maybe for them it is) and the chord progression for the subsequent line "Tumhari hi yaadon ne bataaya hai, ke tum bhi mjuhe miss karte ho zara". This part is where I sort of felt some Raag Bilawal influence. The flute solo and harmonies' intervention are terrific layers that elevate the song. The tracks are mixed and mastered by Tejus Srivastava at Blue Productions.

9. Dil Behra
Vocals:
Music: Rishabh Raghuvanshi, Sanchit Khosla
Language: Hindi
Genre: Pop/Rock
Mood: Energetic
This is not my first time featuring this duo of Khosla and Raghu and I am excited about their new EP coming up. A song from this EP was released recently and this quite hit the perfect notes right through. The keys, rhythms and guitars make an indelible mark in the intro as the whole sound design oozes style. I am in awe of the basslines too and not a word has been uttered yet with 30 seconds gone, and this is how you get a song's intro to grab the interest of the audience.
The attitude in the vocals is carefree and cool and all you can do is nod your head and hum along "Sunta Nahi Hai, Oonchi Pukare, Dil Behara hua". As the melody plays along I am reminded of another super hit of the 2000s "Tanha Dil" by Shaan and Ram Sampath. I can also sense Raag Bhimplasi in the melody as we hear some fine vibrato in "Har Ghadi, hai Mujhe Kya Hua". The drop in tempo and elements like the heavy drums and electric guitars bring in a nice Rock flavour towards the end as well.

10. Stay
Written and composed by Prabhtoj Singh, Pranay Parti and Sanjeeta Bhattacharya
Lyrics: Prabhtoj Singh
Produced by Pranay Parti
Genre: Pop
Mood: Dance
These are names you better not ignore, and when you listen to them, you STAY for the quality of music they produce. Prabhtoj Singh, Sanjeeta Bhattacharya, and Pranay Parti wrote the melody and lyrics. Thanks to Paranay's production, the tempo and sound design take us into some smooth Dance-Pop mode. It is impossible to turn away the offer as Prabhtoj asks you to stay, with his stylish vocals. The harmonies are just exquisite and they are an essential part of the song.
Sanjeeta, Prabhtoj and Pranay all get on board on vocals, but you remain stunned and observant when Sanjeeta takes on the mic as the lead vocalist in the verse. What Sanjeeta achieves with her attitude, Prabhtoj does with his falsettos and constant energy. The tracks are mixed by Aman Sagar and mastered by Andres Mayo.
