1. Kya Tera Kya Mera

Music Composed and Produced by Shivansh Jindal

Singers: Shivansh Jindal & Aasa Singh

Lyrics: Shivansh Jindal

Language: Hindi

Genre: Semi-Classical Pop

Mood: Romantic

Shivansh Jindal has impressed me since 2020-21 as a young lad making excellent Tumri/semi-classical-styled pop fusion music. When he is taken under the wings of musicians like Salim and Sulaiman you expect nothing less than consistent progress. Here is the best song composed by Shivansh yet, according to me, and it is not the tantalising melody but the elaborate production and the gorgeous vocals that make it worthwhile. The song is from an upcoming album

I hear the mild slide guitar as two fantastic singers, Shivansh and Aasa Singh, exchange lines in this beautiful song that embraces same-sex love. Shivansh produces and arranges every sound, and he has gone the keyboard programming way rather than live instrumentals. Either way, the creation is awesome. The Piano and acoustic guitars too come along but the magnificence comes from their vocal tones, emoting love and tenderness. I love the chorus segment and when the Tabla, and bass guitars combine it is pure magic.

The two singers compete for dominance in such a healthy fashion with their aalaps and ghamakas. The Sitar interferes in great style during the verse. "Pyaar yeh anokha, Hawa ka yeh jhoka mujko choo jata baar baar", and when the flute sol comes along the words, arrangements and vocals make me tremble as I feel the intensity and purity of love here. Shivansh does a fabulous writing these words and the creative arrangements that get the Sarangi also on board is just a testament to his abilities. The swaras are delivered in the interlude the second time around and this love feels untarnished just like Indian classical music.

The strings section in the background during the lines "Kabhi Narmi ho, ya thodi garmi ho, pyaar aise ho rangon se bhara" is just an uplifting element.  As we draw to a close just enjoy Aasa and Shivansh go head to head with their astonishing reproduction of the notes as they even playfully alter "kya tera kya mera" in more than a few ways. Tejus Srivastava is the mixing and mastering engineer at Blue Productions. Are there fragments of Raag Yamunakalyani in the melody? Maybe!

2. In The Night

Composed, programmed and arranged by: Charanraj MR

Lyrics: Dhananjay Ranjan

Singer: Kapil Kapilan

Language: Kannada

Genre: Jazz

Mood: Romantic

Charan Raj is once again proving his mettle in 2025 with outstanding tracks, one after another. This is a breathtaking song composed, arranged, and programmed by Charan, with lyrics written by Dhananjay Ranjan. It is not just a song for the night; it is for your day, dawn, and dusk. Nathan's woodwinds make the foray and it feels like we are inside in a theatre listening to a Musical. The way Kapil Kapilan sings with all his heart and exploding lungs is a treat to hear because there are only a few like him who sing with this passion and perfection and who can also sing in multiple langauges with ease.

This Jazz-rich song is another proof that Charan can create gems across genres. Godfrey Emmanuel plays the mild guitars and when we get to the second time of the pallavi " In the Night, Ee khali khali road ali" we get to hear the amazing strings section by Cochin Strings, arranged by Narayan Sharma. The fantastic team playing the strings are Carol George, Joby Jose, Bibin and Maria Das, Shallu Varun is on Double Bass. Let us not forget the way Karthik Vamsi gives these enticing percussions like the finger clicks and Cajon that go perfectly well with the Jazz tone.

The genius and creativity of Charan come to life in the interlude as he uses the Nadaswaram like a Western brass section instrument. D Balasubramani plays the sexy Nadaswaram bits and the melody written for this is fresh and full of life. The Nadaswaram is accompanied by woodwinds, guitars trumpets and trombones as well. The backing vocalists Devu Mathew, Kavitha Ilango, Charu and Fathima give that choral bliss along with the Nadaswaram notes. The stanza is just flowing with more beauty with lines like "Ranga raashi rangu neenu". My heart attained total joy when we heard a pause by Kapil and then came Shallu's terrific double bass notes, followed by Kapil singing "Ninna smile ey saaku"

Venkatesh G Bhat is the music supervisor, and the recording engineers are Vishnuraj MR at 2bq Studios and Jishtu at Pop Media House. The tracks are mixed and mastered by Sujith Sreedhar at Masterhouse 2bq Studios Chennai.

3. Kaahe?

Composers and Singers: Shashwat Singh, Nikhita Gandhi

Additional Vocals: Nitish Dubey

Lyrics: Shashwat Singh

Music Producer: Nikhita Gandhi

Language: Hindi

Genre: Tumri-Pop fusion

Mood: Groovy

I am so glad that the talented Nikhita Gandhi has written and produced this very enjoyable folkish and traditional-pop fusion song. Shashwat Singh another massively talented vocalist joins hands with Nkihita in composing the melody, and he writes the lyrics for this groovy and dance-inducing number. The soaring violins in the intro and the combined style of the rhythms and bass guitars make it very inviting. The duo no call themselves 'ShNik'.

"Kaise ye raas rachaaye Duniya ka dhang nahi bhaaye" sings Nitish Dubey on backing vocals giving the song the Tumri flavors.  Shashwat tells me that Nitish is not a singer or a musician, he is a hotelier who loves to sing. It is inspiring that a music lover can reproduce something like this and kudos to Shashwat for encouraging such hidden talents. The melody has strong influences of Raag Bhimpalasi. When Nikhita performs her line " Kaahe, kaahe, kaahe baby morey Muh ko itna phulaaye? Dekha tujhe na aisa jaaye" we are bombarded with some terrific singing juxtaposing style, suave and tradition. The arrangements and production deserve an ovation as Nikhita brings on the brass section beautifully.

Shashwat is in prime form singing "Khushboo bhara bageecha Khoya ye deewana" and the way he delivers the high-pitched notes is proof of what this man is capable of. The song gets better and better with every note and segment as the vocalists shred things apart, and Nikhita blends such splendid oomph and creativity in the song's production. The tracks are mixed and mastered by Sunny M.R

4. Holo Lolo

Composer: Shankuraj Konwar

Singers: Shankuraj Konwar, Shalmali Kholgade

Folk melodies and lyrics collected from Sarat Moran

Lyrics: Himanshu Sutiya Saikia (Assamese) & Shloke Lal (Hindi)

Music Production & Sound Design: Ishan Das

Music Arrangement: Ishan Das, Shankuraj Konwar

Language: Assamese and Hindi

Lakhinandon Lahon starts proceedings with the traditional single-stringed instrument called Been from Assam. Shankuraj Konwar gets cracking with his vocals, which are filled with heart, energy, and technical prowess. Hriday Baba is on percussions and we have the Sigung now played mildly by Lakhinandon. This is a 5-hole traditional Assamese flute. The melody is rich and hummable thanks to Shankuraj's composition. He is accompanied by the amazing Shalmali Kholgade on lead vocals with the latter singing lines in Hindi.

I can make out raag Jog when SHalmali sings her lines, written by Shloke Lal. The guitars are astounding thanks to Ishan Das and Bhaskar Saikia, with the former giving us some chilling moments on the electric guitar. The vast ensemble of backing vocalists includes Arindam Hazarika, Rishabh Borchetia, Pratikhyaa Sarma, Bornalee Deuri and Gauranga Shekhar Sharma with the backing vocal design by Shankuraj Konwar & Ishan Das.

The Assamese lines are written by Himanshu Sutiya Saikia. The sound design and music production are by Ishan Das with Ishan and Shankuraj cranking up the arrangements. Mrinmoy Sarmah is the keyboardist, Nawaz Hussain is the drummer, Lachit Boruah B plays the Assamese Dhol and Deepu Saikia is the bassist. The tracks are mixed and mastered by Hanish Taneja. The Drums and Dhol mix is by Trihangku Lahkar, Assisted by Bidyut Jyoti Mohan

5. Chal

Music - Sarthak Kalyani

Lyrics - Vikram Edke

Singer - Sarthak Kalyani

Language: Hindi

Genre: Pop

Mood: Romantic

The third straight song by Sarthak Kalyani that I am featuring in my weeklies, isn't that a super feat? All the 3 songs are from his upcoming album, which I can't wait to review! Supraja Mukherjee and and Vicky Hajeri play the guitars which immediately strike the right notes in the intro. Sarthak begins to enamour our hearts with his heartfelt delivery. The keys and synths especially are emphatic giving us a synth-pop feeling. Vikram Edke is the lyricist, and all the additional programming is by Akash Sharma.

"Chal, maanjhe ki dori hai tu Khwaabon ki bori hai tu, haan chal Chal, jaane wale pal se tu door Aane wale kal ka ho noor Hai chalna hi tera fitoor" is my favourite segment with all the high-pitched and evocative singing by Sarthak. The solo on the guitars is a nice inclusion in the interlude, and what we hear later in the verse has so much of style and influence of Sarthak's mentor AR Rahman. This is meant to be a compliment because Rahman's sound is not easy to replicate.

Vikram has penned the words that help us heal like "O raahi re, Mod aaye to mud jaana Pankh mile to udd jaana ". Let us enjoy and celebrate Sarthak's ability to write such elaborate and touching melodies, it is a rarity. The outro is a fantastic bit with all the additional vocal layers and Sarthak's aalaap followed up his heart-pumping singing in "Chal o raahi, chal o raahi, chal, chal Raste bah rahe hai, chal". The tracks are mixed by Prateek Kelkar.

6. Dabbu Dabbu

Composed by Sahi Siva

Vocals - Sahi Siva, Haripriya

Lyrics - Sahi Siva

Arranged & Programmed by Sahi Siva

Language: Tamil

Genre: Pop

Mood: Dance

Sahi Siva is a talented musician and he knows exactly how to catch the pulse of the young music lover. That is why Sahi creates excellent dance-pop music that also boasts an enjoyable and hummable melody. The thumping rhythms straight away attract the attention and set the mood for dance and movements. Sahi not only has written the melody but also has done all the arrangements and programming. He is assisted by Jenushan on additional programming.

Haripriya is the female lead vocalist and her tone induces such amazing style and glamour to the song. Sahi's voice texture sells itself and his unique tone is fantastic as always. "Puthu vidha aatral , athai kaata , puyal kaatragi varava" is my favourite line. Sahi has penned the words of love and romance as well with some interesting ideas. Abinandan R plays the evocative electric guitar riffs, with John Praveen as bassist. It is impossible to not like and groove to the lines "Dabu Dabbu Dabbu, Idukithe".

I love the stanza as well that begins with such interesting words and wonderful singing by Haripriya "Manmadha, Mellama, sollada sellava", and from there on, the song is just one fun ride, with such amazing electric guitar notes playing in the background. The tracks are mixed and mastered by Vidusan Kaneswaran

7. Sahib Ji

Composed by Pritom Gohain

Produced by Pritom and Anubhav Gogoi

Lyrics and Vocals: Gaurav Guleria

Language: Hindi

Genre: Rock

Mood: Energetic

Sahib Ji, what a terrific song Sahib Ji! Respect is due for such wonderful writing and energetic performances by this duo of Pritom and Anubhav. I love the heavy Piano in the intro along with the enraged drums. Pritom joins in with his electric guitars. The voice of Gaurav Guleria instils such amazing adrenaline and a bit of hauntedness. Gaurav also writes the lyrics and you can't look away when he sings "Dekho Mujhe, Sahib Ji Dekho Mujhe". He gives off that Kurt Cobain vibe with his tone, and delivery.

He does write interesting lines like " MYa Gaaun Raag Yaman Ka", however, the melody does feel more like Raag Bhimpalasi to me. Anyway, the point by Gaurav is probably suggesting that he can give whatever you ask for, irrespective of genre, like "Main Gaun Rock, hip-hop ya gaaun raag Yaman ka". Biswajit Chakroborty amps up the oomphs factor with his bass guitars. The highlight reel is the electric guitar solo by Pritom that sizzles in the interlude. The bridge section allows the words and vocals to touch you with a calmer sound design, along with vanishing drums and a lower tempo.

The line "Parindo sa main azaad udta phiroon" is where I felt tonally Gaurav resembled the amazing Papon. Pritom doesn't rest even a bit as he continues to provide his solo support on guitars. The creative juices start flowing as we get a folkish traditional segment with a chorus segment, accompanying Tabla and Harmonium.

8. Jaan E Adaa

Vocals: Hanu Dixit

Written, Composed, and Produced by Hanu Dixit

Language: Hindi

Genre: Pop

Mood: Romantic

I love it when young musicians keep working consistently to produce and deliver good music, without falling prey to popular music trends that taint your style. Hanu Dixit, one of the winners of last year's Nexa Music Season 2, comes here and performs a solo act. The melody and lyrics are written by Hanu and he goes to perform the lead vocals and produce the music as well. The solo rhythm guitars in the intro are played by Hanu and then we hit the verse full of love. It is all inspired by Lucknow, the city of love.

The introduction of the Tabla to create the fast, traditional rhythms is a beautiful element added when he sings " Dekho shaam bhi hairaan hai, tere jaane se naraaz hai". The vocals hit some fantastic high notes in the chorus line " Jaane E Adaa" with some accompanying strings section too in the background. "Kaise kahoon , rukh ja zara, ek raat aur" are lines when you feel the pain and desperation thanks to the delivery by Hanu. The bridge section gets an additional layer of vocals and the melody is where Hanu also impresses by keeping it simple but with his ghamakas, it all falls in place to delight us. The tracks are mixed by Hanu Dixit.

9. Pomegranate Lips

Vocals and Lyrics: Lyla

Music Composition and Production: Surel Ingale

Language: English

Genre: Blues-Pop

Mood: Groovy

I recently heard Lyla in the Kannada movie song and was awestruck by her attitude, tone and delivery style. It was from the movie "Nodidavaru Enantare", a song called 'Alive -Reimagined'. Anyway, she goes to mesmerise and pull me in like a Pied Piper with her sultry vocals in this composition by Surel Ingale. The song has this Blues-Pop nature to it thanks to Suresh's excellent music production.

Lyla makes things extremely inviting with her confidence and the interesting lines written by her. The Keys, guitars and rhythms are there as supporting acts as Lyla casts a spell with "My place or yours, is the only question tonight". ID Rao is in scintillating form as always with the saxophone and no other instrument comes close to turning the heat on like this one, and who better to handle it than the legendary player?

The lines are brilliant and whacky and just after a brief intervention of ID Rao, Lyla sings "The Sax is saxing, the floor is waxing". It is a tough ordeal to decide where to focus my attention, on Lyla's magnetic delivery or ID Rao's brilliant solo act. Either way, I guess it is safe to say I am seduced! Lyla goes on to sizzle on her scat-singing, upto the task is the Alto and Tenor sax solos. Ishan Naik handles the mixing and mastering.

10. Jiya Laage Na

Vocals Aishwarya Anand

Lyrics and Composition Aishwarya Anand

Music Production lil Help

Language: Hindi

Genre: Semi classical Pop fusion

Mood: Happy

He calls himself Lil Help, but he does quite a lot as a producer. I have featured many of his songs in which he uplifts a melody with his work on arrangements and music production. This song is one such example of a beautiful melody getting deserved treatment.

The melody and lyrics are written by Aishwarya Anand and the vocals belong to her. This melody is rich with all the semi-classical tendencies and I sense some Raag Hamsadhwani in the melody.  " Tum bin Mohe" is where her higher-pitched singing is beautiful and warms the heart. Aishwarya is generous with all the ghamakas and when combined with the Piano and rhythms the song speaks to your heart.

The interlude is just a bit of an alaap in the background. "Yun sathaaye, yun thadapaye" she sings and you do feel a bit of a pleasant suffering. She also delivers the swaras to give off the semi-classical flavours. The Keys and the Electric guitar solo in the interlude is a beautiful way to end the song.
