1. Bangle Bangari

Lead vocals: Anthony Daasan

Lyrics: Nagarjun Sharma

Composed, Arranged and Produced by Charan Raj

Language: Kannada

Genre: Folk-Pop

Mood: Dance

Anthony Dasan is a gifted singer who gives you goosebumps, but all that depends on the kind of song he is offered. This is why people like Charan Raj must be celebrated, because they make a song come alive with their well-crafted melodies and the perfect choice of lead vocalists and tones, which make the song truly memorable. The lyrics are by Nararjun Sharma and the song's melody, arrangements and programming work is handled by the brilliant Charan Raj.

Karthik Vamsi raises the energy with the thumping percussion and Kalyan is in charge of all additional rhythm programming. The entire backing vocal setup feels like a grand celebration, and the singers involved are Devu Mathew, Indu Sanath, Shreya Krishbushya, Gayathri, Shenbagaraj, Saisharan, Narayanan Ravishankar, and Aravind Srinivas. The accompanying Piano is majestic and elevates the melody that begins with "Devare". The melody is so beautiful here, and it makes my heart swell. The song that comes to mind is "Ayya Veedu Therandhuthan" by Maestro Ilaiyaraja from the album 'Kadhalukku Mariyadhai'.

The title line is just something that will fit perfectly in our hearts like a set of Bangles on a woman's wrists. Sunil Sylvester's guitars and bass add style to the proceedings. The layers of harmonies are excellent in the arrangements and it is heartening to see this man Charan compose two varied melodies for the two charanams, and it only shows his capabilities. Sr S Ballesh intervenes on the Shehnai in the 2nd charanam and the outro as well and Dr Subhani plays the ethnic strings. This is going to be one perfect marriage dance number this year. Vihsnuraj MR is the recording engineer at 2BarQ studios Chennai. The tracks are mixed and mastered by Aniket Mohanty at Audiokraft Studios, Bangalore.

2. En Vaanile

Vocals: Shweta Mohan

Lyrics: Uma Devi

Composed, Produced by Pravin Saivi

Language: Tamil

Genre: Light Music

Mood: Romantic

I recently reviewed this movie album DNA a week ago and it has some fine songs by multiple composers. This one too was one of my favourites and what stood out was its unique treatment. The melody was rich but the arrangements especially the use of choral layers were outstanding. This is the first time I am featuring Pravin Saivi on a movie album song. I have reviewed many of his indie projects.

Shweta Mohan as always takes on this entrancing intro with just her saccharine-laden vocals. The harmonies begin thanks to backing vocalists Sridhar Ramesh, Ramya Ram C, Alisha Mathew, Fathima and Shivsundar. It is uplifting to hear the lines "Tunaiyagave Varuvai" with all the resonating harmonies and the heart swells with joy as we hear "inneram ippodu pothum" Uma Devi is the lyricist and Pravin Saivi gives us something precious with these arrangements. The pallavi is sung again with these delightful harmonies and it takes me back to Maestro Ilaiyaraja days and even reminds me of the stunning harmonies of "thendral Vandhu theendum pothu" in the intro.

Naveen Samson plays the acoustic guitar and Naveen Napier is the bassist and we get a simple but heartening interlude that also has a male humming portion. The charanam is gorgeous and I believe it has strains of Gourimanohari Ragam when Shweta sings "Poovile Yaazhisai ketkuthe vaa". I am reminded of gems like "Bhoopalam Isaikkum " from the album 'Thooral Ninnu Pochu' and "Kanna Varuvaya" from 'Manathil Uruthi Vendum'. This portion is exquisite and gets even better with harmonies added to "Thuli Thuli ya nanainthidava".

I now think to myself is there some of Srothaswini scale in the melody because there are so many similarities to these spellbinding tracks "Oh Vasantha Raja" and "Sindhiya Venmani" also by Maestro Ilaiyaraja. I can only say that Pravin has smashed it out of the park and when some composes music that reminds me of Ilaiyaraja there can be no bigger compliment in the world of music. Naveen Samson and Naveen Napier are in blistering form. The tracks are recorded by Vishnuraj MR, Anish Mohan and Pravin, and Sujith Sreedhar is the mixing and mastering engineer.

3. Bana Le Tera

Singer: Aditya Narayan

Composer: Ashish Kulkarni

Lyricist: Manoj Yadav

Music Produced & Arranged by: Meghdeep Bose

Language: Hindi

Genre: Light Music

Mood: Romantic

I watched the latest season of Indian Idol 15 and more than anything else I was constantly in awe of one performer. It was not any of the participants but the host Aditya Narain. He can be funny, do some nice moves on stage, think quick on his feet and most of all can sing like a dream. So when I hear his voice in a new single I immediately raise the volume and when Ashish Kulakrni is on composition, it is bound to be a good tune.

Tejas Vinchurkar plays the flute solo in the intro and the sound design reminds us of a grand Symphony Orchestra thanks to the live strings by FAME’s Skopje Studio, Macedonia. The mesmerism starts getting high and real when he sings "teri sabhi adatein" with that poise and romantic fervour. The gentle and traditional percussive sounds are rustic and earthy to listen to, bringing us closer to the song. Meghdeep Bose is the man in charge of the fantastic arrangements and music production. The additional rhythms are by Mihir Desai and Abhineet Singh Rathore.

The chorus segment is here to entice you with a beautifully crafted melody that goes "Bana Le tera Saaya Mujhe Saathi, tere Saath Chalun". Ashish Kuklarni, take a bow for this exciting chord progression and with Moanoj's dreamy lines and Aditya's vibratos we are in the midst of love. The electric guitar solo is a great addition to the interlude of the traditional rhythm sounds. The bristling Tabla leads the way in the antara, but where Meghdeep Bose showcases his creativity and abilities is the background sound that elevates the line " Tera Mera Saath Hona" as he handles the modular synths here. Meghdeep opts for a relatively silent phase in the closing stages of the Antara before once again amping it with guitars as the line "teri Sabhi Aadatein" emerges.

The song thrives thanks to a fantastic combination of songwriter-singer-producer trio. Is there some Raag Bhimplasi in this melody? Maybe. The tracks are mixed by Hanish Taneja and mastered by Christian Wright at Abbey Road Studios. I love the outro as the strings section plays out the chorus segment of the track. All the Orchestra coordination is thanks to the legendary Andrew T. Mackay and Joshua Rodrigues at Bohemia Junction Limited. Rupak Thakur is the recording engineer at RT Studios along with Meghdeep at Sound Bakery Mumbai. The assistants to Meghdeep are Pritam Senapati, Cyanita Dwivedi and Aabhaas Tomar.

4. Glimpses

Vocals, Lyrics, Composition: Nida Siddiqui

Produced by Derric D'Souza Nida Siddiqui and Ronak Runwal

Language: English

Genre: Pop Ballad

Mood: Romantic

Nida Siddiqui is a fine artist with a voice that can move you, and also stun you into silence with the tantalising control. Derric Dsouza plays the rhythm guitar and with the lower pitched vocals Nida knocks on your head to pay attention to her. The melody and lyrics are written by Nida and the music production is by her along with Derric and Ronak Runwal. The writing is simple and makes you relate to, the days you were in love. Nida's technical abilities slowly show up in the line "I often regret how things have changed", with the mild vibrato.

The verse has a nice chord progression as we head into the line " I'm still Here" with accompanying harmonies and the string section in the background. The focus and stress on the phrase "I'm still here" is given more meaning with the arrangements. The strings are programmed by Ashish Kujur. The violins start getting heavier as Shardul Bapat plays it to sway you into a momentum and Derric's Piano is like a playful touch and a warm hug.

In the next verse, we hear Nida singing high and touching falsettos and the melody is crafted beautifully and one of my favourite lines is " Were you acting nonchalant, I find that so hard to do". A mix of touching and relevant words and moving notes, and a music lover certainly can't be nonchalant listening to such writing. A dash of the clarinet in the background is a sign of so much vision, class and clarity with the arrangers and producers here.

The bridge section is a fine segment with such fantastic vocal delivery and the united effort of all instruments in elevating the song. When the song ends and as Nida plays with the word "soon" my heart is like a mixed bag, I am cherishing a song like this but my heart is heavy feeling the sadness of a lover never returning ever even for a glimpse. This is just a glimpse of Nida's potential as a stunning singer-songwriter. The tracks are mixed by Ronak and Ajay Majethia, with Ronak on mastering. All the lovely graphics and logo is by Tanvi Babbar.

5. Kashti

Vocals, Composition, Lyrics: Priyanshi Srivastava

Produced by: Priyanshu Soni

Language: Hindi

Genre: Pop

Mood: Romantic

Can we call it the Sister Act? Last week Prateeksha Srivastava broke into the top 10 of the weeklies with not one but two songs, and this time her young sister's indie single is firing all cylinders. Priyanshi Srivastava has been regularly on my radar with good songs that deserve attention and this one needs your full focus right now. She has written the melody, a fine one, the lyrics and performed the lead vocals on this suave romantic pop single.

The intro has the lush rhythm guitar and the hypnotic electric guitar playing over it thanks to Bibhash Buragohain who makes it sound like American country rock. When she sings "Behthi Chali" I feel like my heart is flowing away, after melting into a hot fluid, that is how stylish and sultry Priyanshi's vocals are here in the verse. Priyanshi amps up the sound design with creativity and class as he gets on the sounds of water flowing and droplets to add texture and meaning to the lyrics. The adequate rhythms, the solo flute sound and the harmonies all have their impeccable effect on the song's output. Is there some Raag Bhimplasi in the melody? Maybe.

The humming followed by 'Sun Zara' is like a lover calling out and something that feels melancholic yet irresistible. The chorus is filled with some adrenaline from the guitars and ecstasy in her voice as she sings " baarishein aane de, khwahishein banke". Judos to Priyanshi for some excellent songwriting. The song melodically goes through a wavy design with emotional highs and lows as well as energetic swings and that is why this feels complete.

6. Ayyo Paapam

Vocals: Bianca Gomes and Clinton Cerejo

Lyrics: Rahman

Music composed and produced by: Shor Police

Language: Telugu

Genre: Synth Pop

Mood: Energetic/Dance

Shor Police is doing some severe policing work by coming to the forefront and dictating how music should be created and propagated, thereby eradicating criminals of sound. This album called 'Subham' just received a very positive review from me as the soundscape was delightful eclectic and fresh for the Tollywood scene at least. It is fantastic to hear Clinton performing the lead vocals on this one, a man whose voice resonates with Madhavan riding a bike wearing those headphones singing "Endrendrum Punnagai" in 'Alaipayuthey'.

The song opens with some funky keys, synths and rhythms, and it feels stylish and smooth when Clinton sings "Ayyo paapam, emaithundo ippodem cheytham". The phrase with the words "maarinidhe ila a ilaa" is one enticing portion. Bianca and CLinto sing in harmony in the charanam and the ride gets crazier with time. The solo squesky violins that intervene in "Thommidhi ayythe ... uppenalaga..." are creative and work quite well.

"Nippula meedha koorchunnatte .vuntadhi paapam... ento ee ghoram. Haa haa kaaram" is my favourite line and this is why Shor Police will keep making more noise for their spectacular sense of writing melodies in addition to energising arrangements.

7. Sawaal

Singers: Ishaan Nigam, KavyaKriti

Composers: Ishaan Nigam, KavyaKriti

Lyricists: Ishaan Nigam, KavyaKriti

Music Producer: Advait Sawant

Language: Hindi

Genre: Folk/Pop-Rock fusion

Mood: energetic

Here is the sister duo KavyaKriti, which just sizzles along and catapults the hearts to another orbit of music bliss. It is a shame that I haven't heard them before but it is never too late I guess. Ishaan Nigam is another rising star who must be complimented for two things viz. honesty and consistency when it comes to his music. The song takes you through segments, turns, tides that you would never expect and that is precisely what excites me as a music lover. The opening verse has this very western pop-styled tone performed by Kriti, along with the flowy keys and rhythm guitar.

Ishaan brings on board that romantically loaded tone and attitude as he sings the line " Nahi Pata Nahi Pata Nahi Khabar", and then when you least expect it the tone, the tempo, the style everything changes to "kaise bataun, kaise kaise ghar jaaun piya", with Kavya singing it like a dream.  The combination of the Tabla and electric guitars is savvy and when the  Harmonium comes on in the interlude it is blissful and rooted. The song meanders in this affable zone as the lines bring about some mild pathos both melodically and lyrically with "bikhre tukdo se zindagi", with Kriti's poise in the lead. The keys and rhythms alone rule here and once again the hook line comes up to conquer the hearts.

The outro brings about these pacy aalaps performed by Ishaan and Kriti, along with Sam Haldar's electric guitar solo. Advait Sawant deserves massive appreciation for guiding the song forward with excellent arrangements, and music production. KavaKriti and Ishaan write the melody, lyrics and deliver the lead vocals. Himanshu Shirlekar is the mixing and mastering engineer.

8. Kanmathi kankalil

Singers - Mridula Warrier, Gireesh Narayanan

Music - Gireesh Narayanan

Lyrics - Jyothish Kassi

Language: Malayalam

Genre: Light Music

Mood: Romantic

This new movie is facing some unwarranted issues and one hopes there is no restraint on a movie only for having a name 'janaki' in its title/ It is preposterous to say that it is a divine name of Sita, and probably the government doesn't understand that more than 90 percent of the Hindu names of people in South India are names of deitie. Anyway, at least the album is out there on all streaming platforms and this is one song that grabbed my attention. Gireesh Narayanan is the composer and producer and he also joins as backing vocalist along with Mridula Warrier as the lead.

We get the classical Veena in the intro and the female lead lines are beautifully written both for the pallavi and anupallavi, with Mridula's mellifluous singing. The combination of the guitars and the Veena, along with a mild Mandolin is tantalising to hear in the interlude. Is there some Shankarabharanam Ragam in the melody? Maybe. The singing in the higher pitch is quite demanding but Mridula delivers it with such ease. The Veena solo is fantastic in the second interlude and is probably the highlight of the song. Jyothish Kassi is the lyricist.

9. Kuch Pal Yahin

Lyrics: Anand Bhaskar

Vocals. Anand Bhaskar

Performed by Anand Bhaskar Collective

Produced by Ajay Jayanthi

Language: Hindi

Genre: Rock Fusion

Mood: Immersive

The Anand Bhaskar Collective is producing some fantastic music at an awe-inspiring rate, and that can only be exciting for music lovers like me. There is no doubt about the class and brand of music that comes from these guys, so here is another belter. It takes only a few seconds to know the quality of the musicians involved and the task of separating the wheat from the chaff was like taking candy from a baby.

Ajay Jayanthi is in no mood to take it slow and make a late cameo, as his violin solo and strings keep making those counternote melodies in the background. He has also produced this song and the touching vocals of Anand Bhaskar are a tonic for the sad and disengaged. The guitars by Hirshi Giridhar evoke such strong feelings of resurgence and self-discovery as Anand sings " Ab Hasna Mujhe Ab Rona Mujhe, Khud ko Paake", the timing is spot on.

I wonder how, but Hrishi's guitars play out like a traditional or stylised Indian classical instrument like the Zitar. The drums are very catchy, even though mild and well executed by Shishir Tao. He is like the crouching tiger, waiting for the right moment and he moves into an aggravated mode as we hit the chorus for the second time. Neelkanth Patel is the bassist and when we get a collective infusion of energy from guitars and drums in the chorus segment and interlude just before the bridge section.

The modified chord progression on "ab khud ko paake" is interesting in the outro. Prathmesh Dudhane is the recording engineer and Keshav Dhar is the mixing and mastering engineer. The guitar riffs remind me of the pacy guitars in 'Fix You' by Coldplay.

10. Tarqeeb

Vocals: Nakul Chugh

Composed and Produced by Nakul Chugh

Lyrics: Shreya Jain

Language: Hindi

Genre: Electronic Pop

Mood: Romance

Nakul Chugh is a musician who checks all the boxes one needs to be a good singer-songwriter, and on top of that, he also does himself a massive favour by being a fine music producer. This song keeps you hooked, and it is bound to become part of the younger generation's playlist thanks to its soundscape. Nakul writes the melody, performs the lead vocals and also produces this song with Shreya Jain writing the lyrics.

The singing is so soothing and stylish as he sings "teri in aakhon mein kho jaaon?| with the lovely Keys in the background. The humming gets even more catchy "Na Na..Kaise Tujko jaane doon?" is one of the highlights of the song. Nakul gets some nice rhythms, synths and harmonies to keep us engaged right through. I love the chord progression as the melody descends into " Teri hi batton mein ghul jaun kahin". Hanish Taneja is the mixing and mastering engineer.
