1. En Vanam
Singer: Sean Roldan
Lyrics: Uma Devi
Music And Arrangement: Sean Roldan
Language: Tamil
Genre: Ballad
Mood: Pathos
I loved the album "Bottle Radha" composed by the amazing Sean Roldan, as his purple patch of wonderful music continues. The Duduk by Ashish Venkateshwaran makes the intro sound all gloomy and melancholic and this pathos-laden song gets the additional vocal thrust of Sean singing it with all that heaviness in the heart. Uma Devi doesn't mince words as her poetry delivers the message,
Ashwin Suresh's nylon and acoustic guitars keep playing right through and Ashwin Raja's keys exist mildly in the background with lines " en vaanam nee, en vaanath thooral nee, en verum nee, en veril eeram nee". The strings section in the background pulls up the protagonist from the depths of sadness with Sean arranging it beautifully. The melody traverses through like a river, gentle and beautiful as we hear "aatrin neerukku ethu sondham bandhame, en yaavum nee". Do I hear some Ragam Shanmukhapriya in the melody here? Maybe!
The bass guitars by Aalaap Raju and Ashish's Duduk form the framework in the interlude but the notes written for the guitars that follow are where Sean shines. The stanza is rich and with such strong writing and delivery the flute intervention is maddeningly good, just listen to the line "uyir siluvai sumandhu kondu, nadai pinamai, naana alaya" is teh most striking line of the song. The arrangements keep getting better as Sean offers no respite. Once you have started playing this song, your ears and music sensibilities are in for a treat.
"Kaathalin sabangal theernthu poguma , inimelum thodaruma" sings Sean with some delicious vibrato. May God bless this amazing composer and singer, so that the people of Tamil Nadu and all lovers of Tamil music worldwide get to hear more of such magic. Kiran Kashyap is the music assistant, all the tracks are mixed and mastered by Balu Thankachan at 20db Studio (assisted by Paul Daniel), and the recording engineers are Ashwin George John, Manoj Krishna and Hari. Sean's manager is M.P. Vijay at Silver Tree Talent Management.

2. Lekin - The Mirror Song
Singer-Songwriter-Composer – Prabhakar Raj
Guitars, Production, Mixing & Mastering – Kshitij Shrivastava
Language: Hindi
Genre: Pop
Mood: Pathos
I wish I could let this song be played to many young indie artists and show it like a mirror so that they all understand the purpose and commitment that songwriting entails. I loved this song for many reasons and it begins right from the moment we hear Nayan Joshi's Piano intro. Prabhakar Raj sinks deep into your heart with his singing and the emotional aptness of his delivery. We can also hear the faint violin solo in the background by Nayan and that too adds drops of pathos to the mix.
The moment he finishes the line "tume gaye, badli kahaani meri, haan janta hai yeh dil, lautoge tum na kabhi...lekin", there seems to be hope building in the protagonist's heart and that is conveyed not only with the lyrics, but the transformed production and vocal tone. We get the sound of guitars and the rhythms act likes rays of sunshine gleaming with brightness. Kshitij Shrivastava is responsible for the fantastic music production and arrangements and he also plays the guitars here.
I love Prabhakar's simple yet succulent writing here, capturing the essence of a man shattered by the departure of his lover. He writes "tum aaye ho iss dafa, lekin bas, Ek yaad thi, mujko satake gayi, phir se rulake gayi". The piano and lead guitars along with the rhythm guitars make way for an even more touching segment after the interlude. Prabhakar forays into the falsetto mode singing "kyun log yun ho jaate ajnabi, jo chahiye jab ta, woh tab kahan milta, shayad ise hi kehte hain woh zindagi".
The violin solo and bass guitars are two more exciting elements that end the song perfectly, filled with sadness and making the listener want more. The tracks are mixed and mastered by Kshitij.

3. Saraswati
Composition - Shri Harikesanallur Muthiah Bhagavatar, Anirudh Varma Collective Piano, Production, Arrangement - Anirudh Varma
Carnatic Classical Vocals - Sowmya Gurucharan
Language: Traditional
Genre: Classical Fusion
Mood: Tranquil.
I have told this a million times, there are not many who can create awe in classical fusion music like Anirudh Varma. The original composition by Shri Harikesanallur Muthiah Bhagavatar is taken here and the delightful arrangements and production by Anirudh scatter new light on this age-old composition. Sowmya Gurucharan wastes no time and with her magnetic voice and the delivery of swaras, the listener is in the middle of a magical spell.
Varun Rajasekharan on the Kanjira combines with Rohan Prasanna's Sarod interventions and the background is decorated with Anirudh's Piano. It is best to close the eyes and let the senses be taken over by Sowmya's terrific Konnakol, and aalaps. This Kriti set in Raag Saraswathi gets a beautiful decorative facade with the Ghatam joining in too. The tracks are recorded by Jonty Indra at Blacksheep Records, New Delhi. Anirudh does the music production and mixing with mastering done by Shawn Hatfield at Audible Oddities, USA. The filming is by Saubhagya Saxena and Shrey Gupta at Odd Bird Theatre, New Delhi.

4. Hope
Composed, Arranged, Programmed & Produced by Shakthisree Gopalan Lead Vocals by Shakthisree Gopalan
Lyrics by Rajesh Shridhar
Strings Arranged & Performed by Rithu Vysakh
Language: Tamil
Genre: Alt-Pop
Mood: Inspiring
It is fantastic to see the superlative singer Shakthisree Gopalan's debut as a film composer. I have been featuring her for more than a few years now, and thanks to her tone and delivery, whatever song she sings gets a facelift and becomes an undeniable hit. I fell in love with the album "Test," which will soon air on Netflix. It is one of the best debut albums I have heard by any artist in a while. Like the title of the song, the energy, tonality, and production fill your heart with hope when you hear it.
Shakthisree has composed the melody and handles all the arrangements, programming and production for all the songs. Rajesh Sridhar writes those touching words that instil immense belief. The heavy strings section with the viola and cello especially are all the mastery of Rithu Vysakh who has played and arranged the strings. The keyboard programming gives an eclectic experience and one feels like floating in space listening to the pre-chorus and verse. The chorus lines "vilagida, vilagida vellai kathire, neeye enthan ottrai suvare" is mesmerising with some upbeat keys and rhythm support. Alok Merwin and Aiden Muller handle all the additional programming.
I love the interlude on the keys that shifts into the EDM space and Rithu's melody on the Violin intensifies all the emotions. The vocal texture, and that vulnerable quiver in her voice all add powerfully to the final output. The tracks are recorded by Hariharan at 20dB Sound Studio, Toby Joseph is the mixing engineer at TobsGarage, and Mike Cervantes masters the tracks at The Foxboro

5. Naina
Artist: Bombay the Artist
Lyrics: Bombay the Artist
Music Producer: Reverse Prodigy
Composed by: Bombay the Artist
Language: Hindi
Genre: Folktronica
Mood: Romantic
Bombay The Artist is an artist I follow keenly. She always releases very hummable music accompanied by enjoyable sound design. This, too, is another instance where Reverse Prodigy brings on his A-game, and we get a song that titillates. The lyrics, composition, and lead vocals are by Bombay The Artist, and just her delivery is like the perfect tonic for a broken heart.
Reverse Prodigy knows exactly how to elevate a sound while keeping it rooted in traditional sounds. The Tabla and Shehnai are a fabulous combination at the chorus segment and when working along with the keys and synths, the folkish fusion is majestic and heavenly. The writing is loaded with the goodness of romance when we hear the line "Sapna sajaye, tera apna bana le mujhe".
I love the sounds of the ghungroo in the background adding to the rhythmic flavours. The verse is touching with these beautiful lines "Aarson yun beet gayo Naa jaane kahaan Kho gaye O kaise bataayein Naina mile" , and just the Tabla, Ghungroo and synths. The outro gets all the sounds in sync and the male aalaap in the background is a nice twist in the tale. The tracks are mixed and mastered by Hanish Taneja.

6. Pyaar Aata Hai
Singer: Rito Riba & Shreya Ghoshal
Music Composer: Rajat Nagpal
Lyrics: Rana Sotal
Music Programmed, produced and arranged by Rajat Nagpal
Language: Hindi
Genre: Pop
Mood: Romantic
There are some musicians whose work I will always love because they are committed to creating something beautiful and not just popular. Rajat Nagpal is one such composer who rarely goes wrong. This is as beautiful and heartwarming as a melody can get and he gets the Diva Shreya Ghoshal to perform lead vocals here. Rhythm Shaw plays the rhythm guitars in the intro to be soon taken into a whirlwind of goodness by the queen Shreya herself. Rana Sotal pens the lyrics.
Rito Riba is the male lead vocalist and as he sings, we fall in love with the melody, "pyaar aata hai, tujpe pyaar aata hai". Rajat does all the keys and rhythm p[programming as well as arrangements and music production. The orchestral arrangements in the background are by The Budapest Scoring, with arrangements for this done by Veronica Grippi. The woodwinds and strings come and decorate the interlude, and when Shreya sings the stanza with the bass, Keys and Tabla the heart just keeps swelling. The tracks are mixed by Hanish Taneja and the recording engineer is Rahul Sharma at Studio 504.

7. Dhaage
Music: Nayantara Bhatkal & Aditya N.
Lyrics: Chakori Dwivedi
Singers: Madhubanti Bagchi & IP Singh
Music Production: Nayantara Bhatkal & Aditya N.
Language: Hindi
Genre: Alt-Pop
Mood: Trippy
My hopes are all built up sky-high when i read the names Nayantara Bhatkal & Aditya N. The duo created massive waves with the series "Class" on Netflix a couple of years ago and for the right reasons. Madhubanti Bagchi is riding a fabulous high, and although I have been fond of her singing since 3 years ago, her recent popularity is helping her open doors into Bollywood and other mainstream music. That comes at the cost, of having to sing some mediocre stuff too. Thankfully Aditya and Nayantara offer her delicious Alt-Pop single and Madhubanti delivers.
IP Singh accompanies as the male lead vocalist and the keys and rhythm programming exude so much zest into the song. Is there some Raag Yamunakalyani in the melody? Maybe. I have no time to relish the chorus segment because Pratik Shrivastava mesmerises with the Sarod solo in the interlude, and all along the funk is stunning thanks to Aditya's bass guitars. The interlude takes you onto cloud nice and it is just tranquility up there. The performance by Madhubanti in the verse that follows is incredible especially because of the vocal register being so low.
Chakori Dwivedi is the lyricist, and IP SIngh who we know as a solid writer, enthrals us with his singing, giving those mild vibrato as well. The tracks are mixed and mastered by Aftab Khan at Headroom Studios with Vatsal Chevli assisting. The recording engineer is Samir Dharap at Studio 504.

8. Raazdaariyan
Music Composer: Gaurav Chatterji
Singer: Sagar Bhatia
Lyrics: Ginny Diwan
Music Production: Gaurav Chatterji, Aditya Bisht
Language: Hindi
Genre: Alt-Pop
Mood: INspiring
Gaurav Chatterji operates silently in his space and when one is so desperate for a good Hindi song, Gaurav does the delivery. This is a pop ballad that gets a good melody and an even better sound design and music production. Gaurav writes the melody, Ginny Diwan pens the lyrics and all the arrangements and production are by Gaurav and Aditya Bisht. The vocals belong to Sagar Bhatia and he ensures that we are serenaded all the way.
The Pianos are brilliant and impactful along with the backing vocalists humming in unison. The vocalists we hear are Aditya Bisht, Sudhanshu Shome, Rakesh Deol, Anupam Barman, Pankaj Dixit, Bhagyashree Mhatre, Pallavi Roy, Shudi Raman and Megha Bharadwaj. Sagar just soars higher in the stanza with the higher notes and the rhythm gets a guitar treatment from Keba Jeremiah who also plays the bass and electric guitars.
The second time we hear the backing vocalists in chorus, we get an electric guitar riff that sounds very much like Coldplay's "Fix You" interlude bit. The recording engineer is Abhishek Khandelwal at YRF Studios. The mixing and mastering are done by Eric Pillai, with Meggha Vikaas Bali as the Music Supervisor, and Azeem Dayani as the Project Supervisor.

9. Lori
Singer: Shreya Ghoshal
Music: Prasad S
Lyrics: Priyanka R Bala
Language: Hindi
Genre: Ballad
Mood: Calming
The vocals by Shreya Ghoshal are generally enough to steer any song through from mediocrity to goodness. However, the trajectory to greatness lies in the melody and music production. This is where Prasad S shines on composition, arrangements and production. His music supervisor is Piush K Setth. The string arrangements are captivating and they are played by The Bombay Strings Orchestra (Neville Franco). The stanza is mellifluous with nice notes and Priyanka R Bala's lyrics add to the beauty with lines " Joh tu maangi, doongi re main", accompanied by the flute solo and strings all along.
Naveen Kumar is the magician on the flute and the vocal harmonies make us sway from side to side like this is a beautiful ballad. The recording engineers are Rahul M Sharma and Samir Dharap at Studio 504. Naveen Kumar's flute in the outro feeds hope and tranquillity. The tracks are mixed and mastered by Shadab Rayeen, assisted by Pukhraj and Milan.

10. Ghum Sa
Vocalist: Ashwin Adwani
Composed by: Anoushka, Ethan Dias
Lyrics: Akash Kaushal
Produced by: Akshath, Bharath and Ethan Dias
Language: Hindi
Genre: Alt-Pop
Mood: Trippy
This is one solid collaborative effort by some talented indie musicians and the guitar riffs, and keys and rhythms with those delicate pauses draw the perfect p[picture of what's about to come. The melody is dreamy and it is written by Ethan Dias and Anoushka Sivasankar, musicians I love to listen to. I love the flowy guitars and with all the harmonies and keys and rhythm programming making this one trippy pop single. We have Akshath, EThan and Bharath on music production.
The singing by Ashwin Adwani plays a massive role in selling this single and without his attitude and tone, this could very well be a simple song. The impact of pauses is always felt practically in hearing it and this is what we get to experience in the song thanks to the create minds on production. The tracks are mixed and mastered by Rohit Singh Bhau
