Here are the best songs released in India across languages and genres for the week ending 2nd February 2025
1. Safar Mein Gum
Music - Sarthak Kalyani
Lyrics - Srijan, Sarthak Kalyani
Singers - Sarthak Kalyani, PALAK
Language: Hindi
Genre: Pop
Mood: Dreamy
Sarthak Kalyani sings and when you hear, you end up with a sense of satisfaction that you heard someone with an elegant and touching voice. He emotes with perfection, and when the lines come "safar mein gum sa main ho gaya" you can feel the mild pain the protagonist is going through. The keys and synths are heavy and keep this mood dreamy like going through an incomprehensible maze, and it all perfectly stays in sync with the theme "Kya yeh woh raasta Laapata phir raha"
Sarthak and Srijan penned the lyrics. His singing is evocative, and it feels like he is reaching for the stars, soaring high. The production and sound design Sarthak are impeccable, with Suprava Mukherjee on all the guitars and additional programming. The highlight for me is the vocal arrangements that come in like beautiful grunts and chants in the interlude, with Palak performing. The verse is all about his vocals and the engaging keys and rhythms feel like an AR Rahman production. The song gets elevated with the line "Kaisi yeh kashmakash hai", thanks to beautifully written notations and accompanying arrangements on keys and synths.
The part felt like being caught up a whirlwind, and it all now comes to a peaceful end in the outro. The harmony arrangements are of stupendous quality with the backing vocalists singing "Kya yahi hai ghar mera, Kya meri daastaan". Salil Hangekar plays the flute and Akash Sharma is the musical assistant. The tracks are mixed and mastered by Prateek Kelkar.

2. Pashmina
Lyrics, Composer: Viraal Kumar
Vocals: Jubin Nautiyal
Production: Arya Acharya
Language: Hindi
Genre: Ballad Pop
Mood: Pathos
Along came this melody and I took notice. As the song progressed, I was enamoured by it even more and that is why it has ended up among the best Indian songs of week. The vocals are by Jubin Nautiyal who does a fine job when given a superb song like this. The gentle Piano and his voice are saddening as he sings "Piya tu kaahe, aisa dard chaahe" and when the high-pitched line is sung, we can feel the protagonist's pain. Viraal Kumar is the composer and the lyricist, kudos to him for penning such painfully beautiful lines words and cooking up a ballad to carry those words.
Arya Acharya is the music producer, and he deserves credit for getting the arrangements spot on. Can you hear the strings playing in the background? They slowly but steadily intensify the pathos. The magic is in the brisk Pianos, which are constant and flow like a perennial river. My favourite segment is the line " Mere do naina" and the hair starts rising all over my arms. This time as we get to the verse, we have Jubin being accompanied by some Gospel-like harmonies.
The entire team shines thanks to an all-round effort with vocals, writing, and production all coming out in fine style. The melody reminds me of the famous song " Ghar se nikalte hi" and may have traces of Raag YamanKalyan

3. Talab
Composer - Udayan Dharmadhikari
Lyrics - Udayan Dharmadhikari, Mandy Gill
Music Produced by Karasama Beats
Additional Production - Gibson George at Gib Productions
Vocals - Shashwat Singh
Language: Hindi
Genre: Pop
Mood: Romantic
I have fond memories featuring and writing about Udayan Dharmadhikari as a composer and this is one more worthy track featuring the mesmerising voice of Shashwat Singh. I couldn't be happier for this lad who deserves so many more songs. Without digressing let us get to this song. The intro has acoustic guitar riffs by Mayank Saini making it feel like the facade of something beautiful and majestic that is about to unfold. Aren't you entertained already? Shashwat goes into mild falsetto mode with "Maanga Tujhe" and you can sense his abilities and skill as a vocalist.
The arrangements start having a few more elements kicking in like the mild piano and the electric guitar solo in the background for a brief moment. Udayan does all the guitar arrangements and he is the one playing the electric guitar. The music production responsibility lies with Karasama Beats, and Gibson George handles all additional production at Gib Productions.
"Tu hi to hai jeene ki saari wajah" and then we have these beautifully executed and arranged harmonies, salute to that. Udayan is on backing vocal duties. The favourite line is yet to come and when we get to the chorus segment "Talab hai tu", wait for the flowy pianos and the drums to enhance the experience. Mandy Gill and Udaya write the lyrics that touch our hearts just as much as Shashwat's voice and tone. Shashwat is having a ball and he engages in these super stylish freewheeling hitting the falsetto notes with perfection. The Interlude is where the Alt-Tock mode kicks in thanks to a nice solo by Udayan. The song moves on and we feel like a walk in the clouds, tranquil and fresh. Gibson is the mixing and mastering engineer.

4. Palaayanam
Conceived, Composed, Arranged and Sung by Job Kurian
Lyrics - Engandiyoor Chandrasekharan
Language: Malayalam
Genre: Gospel
Mood: Divine
What is a talent? Job Kurian is a treasure, and his music is pristine and praise-worthy. He plays the Piano here and starts performing the vocals with the flourish of an Elton John. The lyrics are penned here by Engandiyoor Chandrasekharan. The claps and finger flicks are well executed and it feels like a Gospel at a church. Ananthu Nirmal handles all the rhythm and percussions. The best line is the chorus segment that leads upto the title "Palaayanam".
The fantastic Choir Ensemble is moving and feels like the touch of God. It is all arranged by Evugin Emmanuel and the singers are Vinesh, Joel G Bensiar, Sreejith Beard, Evugin, Krithi Sounder, Riya Ann, Zeba Tommy, Risa Patric, Aleena and Vineetha Jude. The stylish bass guitars by Binoy Rethnakaran (ret) keep up with all this. The outro is all about the great choral ensemble performing in full flow, with Job also joining in. Rex Vijayan is the mixing and mastering engineer.

5. Bajjo
Music: Sahir Ali Bagga
Language: Hindi
Genre: Blues
Mood: Chirpy
Lyrics: S.K.Khalish
I was surprised when this beautiful song was part of a streaming app's new music lists. I had no idea about this album and this song impressed me immensely. It was a pleasant melody with some fine vocals. This man is Sahir Ali Bagga from Pakistan and he is a celebrity artist with a bluetick on IG. I have always maintained that music crosses all boundaries and compartments man-made or even God-made.
The harmonies, Tabla and Harmonica come along in brilliantly when Sahir sings " Rubaroo". This is some fabulous music production making it worthy of a review. Apparently, the song is part of a series released in Pakistan that goes by the name "Bajjo". The strings section in the background is another fine addition. The mood is all chirpy and energetic with the title line "Bajjo, baja de tali".
The song moves into traditional Pakistani folk with the Harmonium and the backing vocals singing in Qawwali style. We also get a fine stanza with an enjoyable melody written and performed very well by the female lead.
6. Khoon
Singer, Composer, Lyricist: Hanita Bhambri
Music Production: Sagar Dhote
Music Arrangement: Sagar Dhote, Hanita Bhambri
Language: Hindi
Genre: Blues
Mood: Mysterious
A big round of claps is now for Hanita Bhambri for her execution and style as the lead vocalist. She has also written the lyrics and composed the melody. The song, helped by the title, its sound design, tempo, and vocal tone, feels like a revenge saga. The Piano is mild and the finger clicks well nicely in tandem. The rising trumpets and horn arrangements along with the harmonies and keys and synths are absorbing. This is one of he finest and toughest vocal performances I have heard thus far in 2025.
Kudos to Hanita and Sagar Dhote, who worked on all the arrangements, with Sagar doing the music production for this. Based on his past work, I expected nothing less from this man. Hanita and Protyay Chakraborty contribute to the haunting and saucy sound of backing vocals. I love the line " Main sabse alag, waisa ladka nahi" with the rising intensity in her tone and the higher-pitched notes. Sagar, Ehsaas Dudhwala and Dilip Suthar at Delta Sounds work on the programming.
The bridge section talks about the blood splatter everywhere as she sings " khoon inn parde pe, khhon iss chakoo pe, fasa raha mujhe koi". This is some good lyrics feeling like a nice story and whodunit being narrated. Hanish Taneja is the mix/master engineer, with Reniel K Reji doing the Dolby Atmos mixing.

7. Kedaathe
SINGER: VISHNU VIJAY
LYRICS: Mu.ri
MUSIC COMPOSED, ARRANGED AND PRODUCED BY VISHNU VIJAY
Language: Malayalam
Genre: Light Music/ Pop
Mood: Pathos
Vishnu Vijay takes up every project and offers something new, it also fits perfectly with the theme and tone of a movie. Moving across genres is a piece of cake for this talented whacky composer, if I may use that word. Being a fabulous flautist, he gets this riff on the flute in the intro and it is some magic on acoustic guitars by Keba Jeremiah just before the start of the verse. Vishnu's delivery is filled with pathos as he goes on to compose, arrange and produce this song.
I feel some traces of Raag Keeravani and wait for that brisk pacy guitar solo for a brief moment by Keba. When we get to the chorus segment and the title line, I am caught in a trance, with a few layers of vocals singing kedaathe" and Vishnu singing it in the higher vocal register sounds magical to hear. The stanza is beautiful with a simple hummable melody but there are these Latin influences, like listening to a mandolin in the background. The strings section by Budapest Scoring Orchestra is stirring and feels larger than life. It is a perfect addition to the overall tone of the song adding to the pathos.
Anoop R Nair does all the additional string arrangements, and Balasubramanian G is the OrchestraCo-ordinator. The recording engineers are Vishnu Raj and Vignesh Raj. The tracks are mixed and mastered by Sujith Sreedhar with Kashyap Rammohan assisting at 2BQ Studios.

8. Aami Abhimanyu
Music & Singer: Arupjyoti Baruah
Lyrics: Rahul Goutam Sharma
Music producer: Ishanu & Arupjyoti Baruah
Language: Assamese
Genre: Folk-Rock
Mood: Energetic
I haven't heard too much Assamese Rock in the last year or so, so this is refreshing. There is no time wasted in the intro, as we get energetic vocal harmony. Arupjyoti Baruah performs the lead vocals with such vigour, and he is also the composer of the melody. The electric guitars and drums maintain the ecstasy right through. This is the title song from a new Assamese movie, Abhimanyu. The music production and arrangements are neatly done thanks to Ishanu and Arupjyoti.
The chorus segment, with layers of vocals singing 'Ami Abhimanyu,' is inspiring even though Rahul Goutam Sharma's words in Assamese are difficult to understand because of my inability. The highlight is the electrifying guitar solo in the interlude and the beautiful and unexpected drop in tempo and tone in the stanza. We get to hear Arupjyoti in a pacifying tone, and it feels like a lullaby now. The percussions add a nice folkish flavour here sounding like a bit of Baul Folk.
Is there some Raag Khamaj in the melody? Maybe. The tracks are mixed and mastered by Trihangku Lahkar with Bidyut Jyoti Mohan & Bitupon Boruah as mix assistants.

9. Mohan Tori Daasi ·
Lyrics: Dev Pandey
Composition: Anurag Mishra
Vocals: Anurag Mishra
Music Production: Sanskar Vaidya
Language: Hindi
Genre: Pop Ballad
Mood: Romantic
I have loved Anurag Mishra's music enough that I have stopped by, taken a break from all-new music and listened to some of his gems in the last few years. My favourite that I keep going back to is "Dhaage", released back in 2022. He is another handful of musicians who write a good melody and then work on the arrangements and production, accompanied by touching lyrics. His vocal texture is another plus for sure.
This is produced by Sanskar Vaidya and when I hear the melody I feel such amazing notes and maybe I am wrong but I did feel some resemblances to Raag Pilu. The lyrics are penned by Dev Pandey. The Piano in the intro creates this tranquil feeling and Anurag's delivery is so heartwarming. He sings like a lover calling our his partner with love and tenderness! It is only the vocals and piano so far and good enough to incite all feelings of romance and desire in a human being.
The mild strings section accompanies in the background and the verse is beautiful just tantalising the listener into peace. Thank you Sanskar for keeping the arrangements and production minimal and it works best for a song like this.

10. Amake Khunje Pabe
Music: Suvam Moitra
Singers: Somlata Acharyya Chowdhury and Shashwat Singh
Lyrics: Nilanjan Mondal
Audio Production: Sudipto Choudhary and ZIA
Language: Bangla
Genre: Light Music/Pop
Mood: Romantic
Sudipto Choudhary welcomes us with his acoustic guitar riff in the intro, and as the rhythms start punching in we get a stylish lead guitar solo by Sudipto again. Somlata Acharyya Chowdhury is a wonderful vocalist and she performs with terrific style and with a heightened sense of sensuousness in her husky tone. When she is done, Shashwat Singh joins along and he needs no introduction or tips to emote perfectly while delivering as a playback singer.
I love the humming by the backing vocalists Portia Sen and Suvam Moitra, and the Trumpet by Andrew Mc Govern that starts coming in towards the interlude. Suvam composed the melody, Nilanjan Mondal wrote the lyrics and the music production was done with great effect by ZIA and Sudipto. This dreamy pop is a perfect match to spend an evening with the sole company of your loved one. I just can't get over the vocals and tone of Somlata and she simply sizzles like a Pop diva. The tracks are mixed and mastered by ZIA.
