1. My Fellow Showman
WRITTEN BY: RIKA, DOMINIC JAMES, JOSH WHEATLEY
PRODUCED BY: RIKA, DOMINIC JAMES
Language: English
Genre: Indie Pop
This British singer-songwriter of Indian descent is a musical rage at just 21. I have featured her before for a fantastic single called " Love to You" and now this one tops this week's Indian charts. Rika has written the melody and lyrics along with Dominic James and Josh Wheatley. The guitars are thumping and ooze all the energy thanks to Josh playing it.
The vocals by Rika are nothing short of stunning, with emotions being exhibited with great effect through her singing. She uses her wide vocal range to full effect as well especially when we get to " You're broken like me" past the 2.20-minute mark. The production by Dominic and Rika is spot on. The vocal harmonies are arranged to perfection especially when the guitars and drums fade away. The writing is intense with lines like " Lost the words in the space 'tween my mouth and my brain, How do you like me now? As I exit the stage".

2. Bhoo Bandham
Music Composed and Arranged by: Vijay Prakash
Singers: Vijay Prakash, Mangli
Lyrics: Chandra Bose
Music arranged and produced by Nakul Abhyankar
Language: Telugu
Genre: Folk-Pop
Bhoomi 2023 strikes again for the 3rd time now, with this mind-blowing genre-bending song composed and arranged by the masterful playback singer Vijay Prakash. This Telugu number has Mangli and Vijay as the lead vocalists and the talented Nakul Abhyankar produces the song with great efficacy and also handles some arrangements. The moment Mangli grabs our attention with her distinct tone, we can sense the influence of Raag Anandaabhairavi. The strings section in the background is mild, meaningful and magnificent.
Shruthiraj sizzles with the rhythms and the bass guitars accompanying provide great style. We get to hear the folk humming thanks to the list of superb vocalists in Sarath Santosh, Saisharan, Santosh Hariharan, Deepthi Suresh, Sireesha Bhagavatula and Soundarya Bala Nandakumar. All the sounds in the background ensure we get the folk flavour and so kudos to Vijay Prakash and Nakul. Kamalakar and Shivrudra Singh Rathore play the Flute.
The interlude is a symphony of the humming, strings section and flute interventions. Shruthiraj is on top of his game with all the varied percussion sounds brought to life. The recording engineers are Sathya Narayanan, Ainul Huq and Pradeep Menon at AM Studio, Chennai. Nakul is the mix/master engineer.

3. Olave Olave
Music composed, produced & arranged by: Charanraj M R
Singer: Srilakshmi Belmannu
Lyrics: B R Suvarna Sharma
Music programmed by: Charanraj and Narayan Sharma
Language: Kannada
Genre: Semi-Classical/ Light Music
Charan Raj is on a rampage and he starts from where he left off with Sapta Sagaradache Ello Side A. The sequel was hard-hitting and I have done my BGM review of the album on Instagram. The songs are spectacular when seen on the giant screen and here we have the heroine singing this breezy semi-classical melody. Charan uses the same enchanting voice of Srilakshmi Belamannu as he did in Side A.
This song has influences of Raag Bihag and my heart blossoms in joy when I hear her mild ghamaka while singing "shringaarave". The Piano plays mildly in the background along with the stunning bass guitars by Naveen Napier. I am floored and full of love when she finishes the anu pallavi that "nanna haadina shruthi neene allave". As we get to the title line, Cochin Strings take control thanks to Carol George, Jain M P Josekutty
and Danny.
The interlude takes us deeper into paradise with the introduction of the Tabla by Sruthiraj and the Slide guitar by Bhavani Shankar. This is pure genius to use the slide guitar in this semi-classical Indian style while we mostly have heard it play in Country/Folk Music in the West, it almost sounds like a Veena here. The stanza is all about Srilakshmi and her ability to mesmerise us, but Charan and Narayan Sharma impound us with such quality in the programming. Charan is a gem thanks to his ability to produce and arrange like this.
Sunil Sylvester plays the acoustic guitar, and Venkatesh G Bhat does the complete music supervision. We have Aniket Mohanty, Hareesh and Ananthu as recording engineers with Sujith SReedhar as the mix/master engineer at 2bq studios Chennai. The lovely lyrics are penned by B R Suvarna Sharma.

4. Demons of Time
Performed by Parikrama
Written by Nitin Malik
Language: English
Genre: Rock
This rock band is unstoppable with this track. That riff on the solo violin is so unique and it keeps us hooked all through. After the intro, the song moves into "The final countdown" sort of tone thanks to the vocals, drums and guitars. The frontman Nitin Malik has written the melody and lyrics and is the lead vocalist. Suhail Ali Khan plays the solo violin riff. We have Saurabh's guitars turning everything into hot flames along with Gaurav Balani on bass and Srijan Mahajan on drums.
The song is high on energy and we have Nitin's deafening scream and singing to appreciate for that. The song is more than just the vocals, with every live instrumental execution and arrangement contributing in its way. The solo on the electric guitar is nicely written and played and Saurabh goes beserk in this interlude. Subir Malik is the keyboardist. Apparently, this completes the trio of songs written to pay tribute to LOTR. I would love to go and check the earlier two songs "Am I Dreaming" and "Tears of the Wizard"

5. Chaarpashe Aalo Hok
Composition, Sound Design and Direction - Indraadip Das Gupta
Lyrics - Rabindranath Tagore, Srijato and Acharya Sanjay Chakraborty
Singers - Ajoy Chakrabarty, Kaushiki Chakraborty, Timir Biswas, Somlata Acharyya Chowdhury, Amrita Singh Majumder, Kaushik Chakraborty, Antara Nandy, Ankita Nandy, Anandi - Aheeri, Partha Sarathi Ekalabya, Debayan Banerjee and Indraadip Das Gupta
Music Production - Shamik Chakravarty
Additional Music Production - Rupak Tiary
Language: Bangla
Genre: Semi-Classical
It begins with Raag Bihag according to me and Indraadip Dasgupta is mesmerisingly good as the composer, and man in charge of sound design. The great man Rabindranath Tagore's lyrics are used along with some writing by Srijato and Acharya Sanjay Chakraborty. The arrangements and production are beyond excellence. The galaxy of vocalists will stun you with every note uttered, ranging from legends to modern-day stars.
The composer Joy Sarkar plays the acoustic guitars and Saaz with John Paul on the stunning bass and electric guitars. We have a plethora of percussions like the Tabla, Duff, Dholak played by Shreedhara Chari and Mustak Khan, Dhaak by Gopal Das, Nepal Das and Sujit Das. This change in percussions from the Tabla, Dholak to the Dhaak transports us into a Durga Pooja environment. Pratik Shrivastava on Sarod and Koustav Majumder on the Sitar are having this beautiful and healthy competition to grab our attention.
The song makes great turns and twists from being folkish to semi-classical to moving into pathos light music style, all thanks to the vision of Indraadip. Shamik Chakravarty has produced the song with Rupak Tiary also working on additional production. The closing stages are driven by a lot of live instrumentals like the flute solo by Nirmalya Humtoo Dey and the strings by Sandipan Ganguly and team. Kudos to all the adult and child chorus teams.
The recording engineers are Akash Mukherjee and Subhashree Das at Jam8 Studio, Mumbai, Soumen Paul at Gaan Bajna Music, Ananjan Chakraborty at Shrutinandan Studio, Kolkata, Shiladitya Sarkar at On Air Theatre, Kolkata. Shiladitya is the mixing engineer with mastering by Donal Whelan at Hafod Mastering, Wales UK. The creative lead at SVF Music is Riya Deb Roy and she should be congratulated too for bringing this project to life.

6. Nanage Neenu
Singers: Vijay Prakash and Rakshitha Suresh
Lyrics: A P Arjun
Composed and arranged by Arjun Janya
Language: Kannada
Genre: Light Music
Arjun Janya will make sure he gets into a list, and such is his ability to weave a magical melody. This sounds very much like a Vidyasagar melody thanks to the rich Raga base. To me, there are influences of Keeravani Ragam in the melody and it gets enhanced brilliantly thanks to Rakshitha Suresh in lead vocals. The Sunshine Orchestra is in full swing here playing the elaborate strings section in the background, and kudos to Arjun for all the stellar arrangements.
The song moves into a nice folk melody in the anupallavi with the entry of Vijay Prakash's vocals. Sruthiraj and Derrick are on percussions having a ball here. The song reminds me of Ilaiyaraja's "Povoma Oorkolam" and the arrangement and sound design trike a resemblance with Ajay-Atul's "Yaad Lag La". Kiran plays the flute and Kumar plays the Clarinet in the interlude. The stanza is as much about the lovely guitars by David Selvam and bass by Napier Naveen as it is about Rakshitha's singing.
Sanjay is on keyboard programming and Aneesh Solomon is on rhythm programming. The song feels heartwarming when Vijay sings the title line and the flute interventions are amazing. The tracks are mixed and mastered by David at Berachah Studios. The musicians' co-ordinator is N. Ramanathan and the studio assistant is Sasikumar.

7. Yaava Mohana Murali Kareithu
Music - Anil CJ
Singer - Haricharan
Lyrics - Dr. V Nagendra Prasad
Language: Kannada
Genre: Light Music
We are at the 3rd Kannada song this week, wow! The Sandalwood industry is rocking for sure. Anil CJ is the composer for the song along with all the programming and arrangements and Dr. V Nagendra Prasad is the lyricist. The influences seem to be from Amruthavarshini Ragam and who better to vocally garnish the tune than one of India's finest playback singers, Haricharan. He simply serenades us with his blemishless singing. When we get to the title line we hear backing vocals from Roshan Sebastian, Rahul Sebastian, Riya Sebastian and Susmita.
The mild interventions on the Mohan Veena by Roshan Sharma, Kumar's Santoor, the Cello and Double Bass by Francis Rozario and bass guitars by Keith Peters all add important elements of beauty to the song. Josy Alappuzha plays the flute solo with great style and Balaji is the violinist. Anil goes all out in making these lavish and enchanting arrangements. Francis also plays the keys and conducts the Choir session.
Karthik Iyer takes over in the second interlude playing the solo and we get a wholesome stanza studded with beautiful notes. The recording engineers are Anil, Aswin George John, Shri Raman, Jisto George and Siddharth. The tracks are mixed by Anil at Madcat Studios, Bangalore and mastered by Nick at London

8. Haye Re Duniya
Singer/ Composer: Rashmeet Kaur
Rap written & performed: Ikka
Music Producer: Rusha & Blizza
Lyrics: Rashmeet Kaur, Dhrruv Yogi
Language: Hindi
Genre: Alt Hip-Hop
Rashmeet Kaur has been a rising star over the last 2 years and I too have featured her for vocals as well as for her own compositions. This too is a very enjoyable and upbeat single composed and sung by Rashmeet. She starts off with a very retro-styled aalap we would have all heard in old Hindi songs, especially the sad ones. The moment she utters the title, it becomes groovy and fun.
The song has some very interesting keys and rhythms programming and hence credit must go to the producers Rusha & Blizza. The lyrics are co-written by Rashmeet and Dhruv Yogi. I just love her singing as she alternates between steamy and classical. The line "kitni dafa mujhe tadpaaye , re duniya" especially the ending ghamakas, is sensational. Ikka who is another talented rapper, comes in with his rap segment and he writes and performs with style as expected. The tracks are mixed by Tamzid Rahman and mastered by Whitfield Mastering.

9. Ghum
Lyrics, Composition & Vocals: Shrestha D
Audio Production: Sudipto Paul
Music Arrangement: Sudipto Paul, Gaurab Chatterjee
Language: Bangla
Genre: Alt-Rock
Things start with a lot of mystery and it feels like witnessing an opening act in a play. The drums by Gaurab Chatterjee with so many elements of the Drum Kit all come into play in the intro like the Hi-hat Cymbals, Snare drum, and bass drum. Shrestha's whispers reach our ears and I am yet to figure out the nature of this single. Then with her Bangla vocals, we get slowly but steadily haunted by the beauty of the melody.
The song is written, composed and performed by Shrestha with Keys by Sudipto Paul who punches in some nice synths giving it a nice Alt-pop flavor. Hiten Mukherjee is the guitarist and he makes his presence felt with that electric guitar solo. The terrific arrangements of instrumentals, as well as vocal harmonies, is a highlight of the song and credit goes to Sudipto and Gaurab for the same.
Shrestha sizzles with her vocals giving it a pop style as well as adding ghamakas to give an Indian classical touch. The tracks are mixed and mastered by Srirup Chatterjee and the recording engineer is Abhibroto Mitra

10. Fly
Performed by Debajyoti Biswas
Written by Debajyoti Biswas
Music Produced by Abhibroto
Language: English
Genre: Alt-Rock
This 5 track EP was released by Debajyoti Biswas recently called " Changing", and I will recommend it to music lovers interested in beautiful gentle English POP. This song was my favourite, and I got to close my eyes and listen to Debajyoti take me through a meandering road towards bliss thanks to his amazing voice.
Deb's voice is unmistakable and it makes you never lose focus, as it looks like it belongs to a seasoned artist. The Keys start slowly gravitating upon us thanks to Theo Wreek who also accompanies on backing vocals. The song is enchanting and it is written with such finesse taking us to the early 2000s. I could relate to R Kelly's "I believe I can fly". The guitars are played by Dipan, Nilesh and Abhibroto.
Debajyoti soars not just with the words "You make me wanna fly higher than I can" but also with his vocals. The electric guitars and drums add crisp Rock layers to this song. The song's outro on the layers of acoustic and electric guitars is fitting.

11. Manwa
Performed by Nitisha Agrawal, Prithviraj Singh Sisodiya
Written by Nitisha Agrawal, Prithviraj Singh Sisodiya
Produced by Avni Kamdar
Language: Hindi
Genre: Semi-classical
This guy is a talented songwriter and I have featured Prithviraj Singh Sisodiya twice before. This is a melodious semi-classical number composed and written by Nitisha Agrawal and Prithviraj. We hear the voice of Prithviraj and he is guzzling away singing like Shankar Mahadevan in "Breathless". The song has influences of Raag Bhoopali in Hindustani or Mohana Ragam in Carnatic music.
Once we hit the interlude section, we are treated to a brilliant solo on the slide guitar, played like a Mohan Veena by Gaurav Nagor. The keys and rhythm programming give the classical rendition a more modern synth-pop styling thanks to Avni Kamdar's wonderful production. The female voice we hear belongs to Nitisha Agrawal. Hersh Desai is the mix/master engineer.

12. Kataar Mein
Composition, Lyrics, vocals: Vasuda Sharma
Performed by Sharma and the Besharams
Language: Hindi
Genre: Alt-pop
It is nice to feature Vasuda Sharma here as part of her Hindie POp fusion act called "Sharma and the Besharams". The last few times I have only been blown away by her solo acts, but this one is precious on all counts. Vasuda pens the interesting lyrics and also writes the melody. I never knew that she had a voice that could portray chutzpah and gusto, but she delivers her with style against many of her sweet and tender renditions of the past.
The band members are killing it with the thundering drums of Rahul Hariharan, and Chaitanya Bhaidkar's electrifying guitars. I love the solo by Chaitanya just before the 2nd-minute mark. Vatan Dhuriya is the keyboardist and he comes with some funk towards the outro and bassist Chirayu Vedekar grooves things up. Jayakrishnan Nalinkumar is the mix/master engineer, Gautam Bhardwaj is the recording engineer and Vasuda's own SongNest is the Music Label.
Very interestingly the band is known as SATB, which is also the initials for the scoring of composition for vocal choirs, S for Sopranos, A for Altos, T for Tenors and B for Bass

13. Footprints
Artist: Amantej Hundal
Music: Randeep Gill
Language: Punjabi
Genre: Indie Pop
The EP "Nothing Like Us" has some good music but this stood out as it was extremely catchy and loop-worthy. The song has some upbeat rhythms and poised vocals which keep us hooked. on. The beats are energetic and bring about a smile to the face and warmth to the heart.
The interlude has some Sitar sounds further magnifying the beauty of the song. Randeep Gill is the man behind the production, arrangements and programming. The string Piano and bass guitars do everything possible to add finesse to the song. Amantej's voice and passionate delivery make me connect with him, even though I don't follow Punjabi. Gurjit Thind is the mix/master engineer. The sitar continues and makes multiple interventions even in the outro.

14. Dhak Dhak
Singer: Sunidhi Chauhan & Jatinder Singh
Music Composer: Rishi Dutta
Lyrics: Kundan Vidyarthi & Baba Bulleh Shah
Music Producer: Sandeep Chatterjee & Rishi Dutta
Language: Hindi
Genre: Folk-Rock
The album was fantastic with most songs of "Dhak Dhak" coming out with freshness and tantalising quality. The composers were varied and that is why the album is exemplary and unique because most Bollywood albums having multiple composers fail miserably. I have already featured two songs, one composed by Osho Jain and the other by Anurag Saikia, and here is the 3rd composed by Rishi Dutta.
The song begins with Jatinder Singh's high-pitched folkish intro that sounds a lot like Sukhwinder Singh. I did sense some Raag Darbari here and soon enough Rajat Prasanna's flute solo embellishes the song with grace. Count on Sunidhi Chauhan to make even a flat-lining song into a heavy-octane performance. She does that with her passion and emotionally charged delivery. Alok Kulkarni helps with the electric guitar solo.
Kundan Vidyarthi & Baba Bulleh Shah are the lyricists and the terrific arrangements and production keep the song fresh and enjoyable. Rishi and Sandeep Chatterjee are the producers. The backing vocalists are Alok, Sandeep and Rishi and the tracks are mixed and mastered by Pankaj Borah at Neo Sound

15. Monster Machine
Singer, Composer & Lyrics: Shruti Haasan
Produced by: Blck
Music producers: Karan Kanchan & Karan Parikh
Language: English
Genre: Dance Pop
I have maintained for more than a few years now that Kamal Hassan's acting genes didn't pass on to his daughter Shruti Hassan, but what did were the music genes. Many might not know that Kamal is a fantastic singer who was even trained by the Legendary Carnatic Vocalist M. Balamuralikrishna. Shruti is a fantastic singer with great power in her lungs and she is also a talented songwriter.
Shruti has written the lyrics and the melody and performed the enigmatic vocals as well. Intermittent Tamil words are being spoken and that has relevance to the song's messaging. The vocal p[performance is world-class and nothing short of how stars like Taylor Swift, Beyonce or Rihanna would perform. Karan Kanchan and Karan Parikh have a blast producing this one and my favourite part is when they bring in a folk-dance style with the introduction of the Dhol, Dholak etc after 2.20 minutes.
The outro is all about Shruti's exhibition of vocal proficiency. Jehangir Jehangir is the mix/master engineer and Hersh Desai does the Atmos mix.

16. Jo Tum Saath Hote
Written and composed by: Prayas Rokde
Lead Vocals: Prayas Rokde
Backing Vocals: Meera Desai
Vocal arrangement: Prayas Rokde, Raag Sethi
Music Production: Raag Sethi
Language: Hindi
Genre: Indie Pop
They call it Compass Box Studios, but the music that comes out of this place is out-of-the-box and fresh. Prayas Rokde was last featured by me a couple of years ago and I have been waiting for his next single. This gentle breezy Pop single lit up my day as I heard it far beyond the twilight period. The song is written and composed by Prayas but Raag Sethi comes in when it comes to the song's musical production. The lovely arrangements are done by Raag and Prayas in collaboration.
The gentle acoustic guitars are played by Raag all along and a mild intervention happens on the Clarinet in the bass pitch thanks to the usual suspect Harmish Joshi. Meera Desai accompanies with some stunning backing vocals and in tandem with lead vocals we get a beautifully wrapped song. The interlude has a couple of layers of the Clarinet itself and that is some inventive production. The stanza is rich in melody and I did sense some Raag Desh influences here, if any.

17. Aise Kaise
Performer: Dimple Saikia
Music Composers: Bily & Akarsh
Lyrics: Akarsh Shetty & Dimple Saikia
Music Producers: Bily & Akarsh
Language: Hindi
Genre: Indie Pop
We are coming to the end of this week's chart, but the quality never seems to fade. Listen to this beautiful pop single that is good enough to be part of any new Bollywood album. That is how good the vocals and production are for this song. Billy & Akarsh have composed the melody and produced this, so massive credit to them for weaving some beautiful magic here. Dimple Saikia is the vocalist and she is one blessed artist.
The pure bliss that emanates when listening to her untarnished voice is inexplicable. The rhythm programming combined with the acoustic guitar forms a very enjoyable interlude. DImple just keeps piling on by emoting perfectly through her delivery. She has co-written the lyrics along with Akarsh Shetty, and one of my favourite lines is "tujme khone lagoon mujse kuch toh mera", especially with that terrific modulation in the end. Hanish Taneja is the mix/master engineer

18. Yun Mere Sang
Singer - Rekha Bhardwaj
Composer - Vishal Bhardwaj
Lyricist - Vishal Bhardwaj
Music Producer - Debarpito Saha, Ketan Sodha
Language: Hindi
Genre: Tumri/Ghazal
I did like another song in this album "Charlie Chopra" which I featured a few weeks back. That too was sung by Rekha ji, titled " jee ki ghatariya". This Tumri-styled song couldnt have been delivered better by anyone else as Rekha owns it in every way. The feeling of longing and estrangement is thanks to diction and style. Vishal composes the melody and pens the lyrics too with some fine production by Debarpito Saha and Ketan Sodha.
The song has influences of Raag Yaman and we have layers of the bass guitars, Santoor, Piano and Vinayak Netke's Tabla adorning it. I love Vinayak's change of beats for the line " Hum bhi chup baithe rahe, tum bhi na kuch khaas kaho". Salman Khan Afridi is the recording and mixing engineer while Alok Punjani does the mastering.

19. Lost
Performed by Zack Knight
Written by Zack Knight
Language: Hindi/English
Genre: Ballad
Zack Knight is outstanding in this single with his breathtaking vocals but also matches that with his songwriting. He reminds me of some of the work of Vishal Mishra in this composition. The generous arrangements with the Keys and strings section make for one wholesome song. The vocal performance is one of the best I have heard in the last few months, showcasing a wide vocal range, hitting the falsetto mode, also with some lovable vibrato.
@iamzackknight
20. Dreams
Written and Performed by Riar Saab
Produced by Hashbass
Language: Punjabi
Genre: Indie Pop
This is my favourite song from Riar Saab's latest EP "How I Love", and it probably has a lot to do with the stunning production by Hashbass. The melody gets a little repetitive, but that doesn't make this song any less likeable. The rhythms, guitars and bass guitars are perfectly doing their jobs in elevating the song.
The song carries great style and that is once again a mix of Hashbass' production and Riar's uber-cool delivery. Abhijay Sharma is the mix/master engineer.
